Very inconsistent for me but his best are some of my all time favourites. I think Seven is my favourite work of his.
He is inconsistent. One of the more inconsistent directors who gets the esteem he does, and the influence of Fight Club brought a lot of uncritical fans into any discourse around him. Social Network and Zodiac are undeniable though.
Zodiac is my favorite. Pretty solid argument for that being in the top 10 of the 00s. Social Network is up there for the 10s too. He isn’t as inconsistent for me as others. Zodiac Seven Social Network Mank Gone Girl The Game Dragon Tattoo Fight Club Benjamin Button Panic Room Alien 3
Gone Girl and Se7en are probably on my secondary tier. Mank, Fight Club, and Benjamin Button have stuff I like but stuff I’m not sure about, probably would rank them in that order on a third mostly okay tier. I don’t really ever think about the others, though oddly I’ve never seen Dragon Tattoo.
The only ones I haven't seen are Alien 3, Benjamin Button, and Dragon Tattoo. I think I've seen the Game, but I can't remember much about it. I don't really have a desire to watch Alien 3 or Dragon Tattoo.
The Social Network, with Zodiac as a close second. His Dragon Tattoo is better than the Swedish version imo.
I really like Zodiac but I was never as enamored with it as most people seem to be. It always kinda fizzles out for me as it's so long. Still really like it but it's probably in the middle of his filmography for me.
Zodiac - incredible. Social Network- also incredible and endlessly quotable. Dragon tattoo- incredible and has that sick opening credits.
Zodiac and The Social Network are among the best American films of the century. The rest is really spotty. Gone Girl was horrendous, and Fight Club represents the worst of 21st century male nihilism. Some of it is not the fault of the text itself, but the film never really gives deeper answers into why the gang went too far other than appeals to morality.
Zodiac. I’ve rightfully looked down on Fight Club as I’ve gotten older due to the fans it attracts. Though I might re visit it soon. I’ve mentioned this in the entertainment forum a couple months ago. I revisited TSN which was one of my favorite films for a long time. I couldn’t believe how cringe it was. There’s some absolutely bizarre things in that movie. Why are they making a drinking game out of writing code? There’s like spectators for it laughing, and cheering. Then they just make Brenda Song crazy for no reason.
Also really want to watch Seven. I’ve only seen it once on TNT. Obviously I’ve realized you need to see that uncensored lol.
I still need to see The Game. That and Panic Room are his only movies I haven't seen. My hot Fincher take is that I think Benny Buttons is very underrated. It's also easily a far, far, superior film to Forrest Gump.
