Bought a grow tent and supplies to start growing. I’ve wanted to do it for so long and finally just bit the bullet. I got some “Mookie B” seeds which is Gary Payton x End Game #3. I’m excited to see what I can do!
My very first plant is coming along well! Mac Stomper! Today is day 21 of flower and i have like 40 days left. Yesterday was the first time I noticed the smell when i opened the tent!
Anyone have to stop smoking weed because of extreme anxiety? Happened to me years ago and I miss smoking. Keep hoping one day I'll feel like I can smoke again.
Been on a 6/7 month break cause it was starting to be a toss up on if I’d be good or just get super anxiety. Luckily I don’t have an addictive personality and was able to go cold turkey.. lately I’ve been wanting to get high randomly, just haven’t. Had smoked everyday almost from 17-36.
That was pretty much me, smoked almost everyday from 18-30. I do however have an addicting personality, but mostly just miss smoking one and listening to music. I have pretty shaky anxiety now just in general…maybe one day not so far away I’ll be able to. Probably been about seven years since I smoked.
Weirdly, a lot of the time, I can smoke weed without getting anxiety these days when I'm in the comfort of my own bed just zoning out to the TV and getting ready to go to sleep within the next couple of hours. Even watching TV in my living room gives me anxiety on weed sometimes. Can't explain it.
Any folks here transitioning into a career in cannabis--specifically NY residents? Just left my first production job for a local grower and am keeping an open mind to what I'd like to explore next in the field. Dispensaries are rapidly popping up in my area this year; tons of licensing must've gone through.
I got into the industry in February this year after years and years of doing service industry, quickly worked my way up to management at a dispensary (they call me a shift lead but I do all the jobs of a manager and get paid industry standard for a manager in my area). Its got its ups and downs and the company I work for can be frustrating in terms of communication and proper staffing for my store but its got a lot of upsides too and I love most of the people I work with. I’d take it over waiting tables any day but it’s no walk in the park.
Awesome that you've been given the opportunity! I had an interview at the local medical dispensary a few weeks ago and it was easily the worst, most unprofessional interview I've ever been a part of. I was totally taken aback becuz it's a very well-established dispensary in the area. I come from a background of service work/warehouse/retail, so I thought I'd like the idea of being a budtender...but I'm thinking maybe I'd rather learn more about the production processes, like infusions or edibles. Do you mind if I ask if your store is unionized? I am trying to prioritize that after seeing abuse of power + mistreatment at my last job. No pressure on answering if you're not comfortable
I’ve got a store in my territory in Michigan that is unionized and they get shit on a lot by their company (7 stores here), because they don’t like that they’re unionized. Go for it, though, workers across all industries are constantly exploited, but especially in start up industries like cannabis.
I definitely get that feeling RE: start-up industry exploitation. I saw a lot of unethical practices with both labor and product itself. Before I quit, I made a call and got the ball rolling on helping them to unionize. The budtender job I mentioned interviewing for previously was unionized, which made the disappointment of it being a disreputable interview greater. That is something I'm continuing to prioritize for future employment in the industry though
Nah I highly doubt my company would ever allow unionization. It’s run by a single very rich family they’d shut it down immediately. I do know a store in my area that is unionized though so it’s not impossible but yeah it’s a new industry especially in my state and the people who swarmed to it first due to the licensing by the state have been nothing but ultra capitalist leeches. Will be a long time before that changes here.
That's a shame to hear. My last job was a similar situation...run by two brothers and a shit-ton of nepotism. I think people feared it at my job as well but I believe that they are finally becoming angry enough to do something.
hate to be super cynical but the entire cannabis industry is made up by fraudsters, people funding their business illegally, or just ignoring rules/regulations by their state governing bodies. Be loyal only to your career until you’ve found one of like the 8 reputable brands to work with/for. But it’s a whack a mole type game on finding good vs. bad employers.
It sucks to hear, but it's what I've been suspecting with my recent experiences. Thank you both for being transparent with me
I will chime in here to agree with everything said above. Got unlucky with the company I worked for and after leaving I'm at a point where I would rather not work in the industry again. Safe to say, if you are smoking cheap weed from a dispensary, it likely has illegal pesticides in them and/or mould. Biotrack and Growflow make it easy to fake batches and strains. I could write a book on how comically crooked the industry is for the most part.
thankfully the grow side of the company i work for is pretty quality (flower wise anyway, their concentrates need work) but yeah the market is flooded with so much low quality bullshit
