FINALLY. I know the track title is "You're Gonna Get It" - but wondering what this "FIGHT" is about? Would be an odd choice for a 311 album title.
Yeah, I think the whole "fight" thing is just in relation to the music video they shot for it. No real indication yet as to what the album title is or when it will be released. Maybe fall?
I’ve gotta think August / September. I sure hope it’s before actual fall - 311 are not a fall/winter band for me …. Need to enjoy them while the weather is still pleasant.
Pretty wild that it’s the longest break between albums that they’ve ever had. The four year break between DTOM and Uplifter seemed like an eternity. I was pretty surprised that they didn’t seem to work on much material during the pandemic the way most bands did.
Also a shame to me too because I feel like 311 def could’ve capitalized more on the current revival of nu-metal and rap-rock. I realize that wasn’t their MAIN genre or style but still in some ways get lumped in with some of the bands that have had critical reassessment and success lately. that plus with younger bands like Turnstile and Teenage Wrist citing 311’s influence , and SA even featuring on a TW song , just feels like a missed opportunity in a way. Still super pumped for the record.
Totally agree. A lot of their peers (and rock in general) have made a big comeback recently and capitalized on this wave of nostalgia going on, but 311 was pretty content to do the same-old, same-old and NOT release any music until this year. It makes me wonder if a true layoff at any point would have benefitted them. They've gone years without releasing new music, but they've never taken a break from touring or even from the cruise/311 Day cycle. I have no idea if it would have hurt them or if it would have given people a chance to miss them like with other bands.
The new song is solid. It doesn't really feel like a lead single to me - assuming it's even supposed to be a lead single anyway. I'm not sure, and I'm just being nitpicky either way.
LOVE IT. The snare, the buildup, the RIFF, SA’s flow - the boys are back!!!! just wish that heavy part at the end went for like 15-20 seconds more !
On the flip side, I see a lot of people pleasantly surprised that it DOESN'T feel like a lead single. Simply because the last however many albums seemed to push some by-the-numbers pop song as the single (saving the typical 311-sounding stuff for the album) and this song isn't really like that. So if THIS is the "single", it kind of makes me optimistic that the rest of this album will be "weird" in a good way.
revolver did the math for me haha Hear 311's first new single in 5 years "You're Gonna Get It" | Revolver (revolvermag.com)
I got to finally see 311 last Friday in London in a 800 cap venue so here's my review about it.. 311 - o2 Academy Islington Being a fan of 311 for many many years I never had the chance to see them live because the last time they toured over here was over 20 years ago!! But finally I got to see them live for the first time and it was worth the long wait! So much damn fun, big sing alongs, the band sounded tight and plus vocally.. Nick and SA sound excally the same live as they do on record!! I had an absolute blast and it was really nice meeting some hardcore American 311 fans who flew over from the States to attend this gig and some other headline dates in Europe as well as some ex pat Americans who r based in the UK in the queue and they were really nice to hang out with. 311 said that they r coming back to the UK once their new album is released so I am really looking forward to see them live again once they come back over here!!
That's fantastic to hear. I've been a sort of passive 311 listener for over 20 years in Scotland so hoping to get the opportunity to see them when they return. They were meant to play a festival called Extreme in 2001 but dropped out, possibly only of the Glasgow date. How was the attendance?
First off It was my first time attending the o2 Academy Islington and I gotta say the standing area is smaller than i thought it would be but there was not many people at first.. almost an half full crowd but about 20 mins before 311's set the standing area was packed out.. the gig wasn't sold out but it was busy thank goodness and everyone had a great time. I think 311 will tour the UK more often once their new album is released and build momentum and fingers crossed for u they play Scotland on this upcoming album cycle.
It's tough because I know touring over there is quite expensive for the guys so it's hard to justify, but in the long term, it would definitely pay off to do repeat UK/European tours. They have the chance to build up some momentum from a somewhat neglected market for them. Hopefully they announce the album sooner than later and get pushing on it. They wanted it out in fall (hoping for September) but there have already been other bands announcing albums for October at this point so who knows.
Oh I 100% agree with u on all of this, I really hope 311 makes a really good go at this and winning new fans over and tour the UK and Europe more often but I loved the new song and people already knew the words at the London show and it sounded big live.
