Probably instrumentals and one proper track. If memory serves correctly, because the album leaked so early they threw on "Battle Of One" and a cover of Bjork's "The Hunter" last minute to entice people to buy it. Can't imagine there were other tracks left out.
I said that about Linkin Park's Meteora and they had 5 banger songs just hidden away in a vault. 20 years later "oh yeah we have these too". But that's LP, this is 30STM............... I hope they aren't' just interludes.
Arbitrary. Attack is such a hard hitting statement of intent, it's hard to imagine it not being the opener. Still, my arbitrary correction is to place A Modern Myth after Hunter. I know Battle Of One and Hunter are bonus tracks, but Hunter leading into A Modern Myth as the closer is just so good.
Yes. It’s a me thing. I’ve always thought it would work better as track 2. However, I never actually listen to it that way. Battle of One and Hunter I’ve always considered it just the end of the album vs bonus tracks. It took years for me to find out Hunter was a cover.
Probably was from those sessions, I'm pretty sure the other b-sides added are from those sessions as well.
I've just read more into it as something was throwing me off about the vocals and apparently only the chorus was finished and the song is mostly new.
I wish I could get excited about possible implications of this. Me, I just want a new Modern Error album.
Wouldn't have known it was 30STM if I had heard it in another context, except for the strong Nine Inch Nails influence which ties it a little to S/T edit: the first video teaser shows a studio snippet from 2003 so that was probably very early in the album making process, before they settled on a direction
Had the exact same rollercoaster reaction. "Hey! Thirty Seconds To Mars finally remembered that they're Thirty Seconds To Mars! Listen to those guitars and drums!...Oh. Its old...Womp." I dug the song but can't understand a word Jared is singing, so it feels like the mix could have used a little more TLC. Oh well. Still nice to hear them rock again.
According to Reddit, there were some newly recorded vocals for this so it's not like a total unearthed 2005 recording.
Just give us a new rock album and we might forget the shitshow that has been the last 2 albums. Still in the camp that the first three albums are solid. And when I say it like that... 09 was the last good album which is well over 15 years ago...
