yep, weirdly the first time I saw them it was actually opening for Incubus on the Morning View tour and they were wayyyy better than Incubus. They had just put out their debut album and their live show hadn’t yet turned into glorified karaoke.
I still hold fond memories of their debut and A Beautiful Lie. This Is War has its moments but it was the beginning of the end for me. Then of course Jared has been creeping me out for a decade
Wow this is the most soulless album I’ve heard in quite some time… outside of Stuck these songs are too boring and derivative to even be played on the radio These guys somehow managed to make three fantastic albums and then absolutely fall off a cliff
There's 2 songs I like on the new one: Avalanche (cos there's a drum vibe and a hint of guitar) and Lost These Days (cos the vocal melody and overproduction is really cool but mostly cos it starts in 3/4 then changes to 4/4, probablythe only unique thing they've done in years).
Listened to this again last night. I kinda like the song Shannon sings on but everything else is like....actively bad.
It kind of sucks they just completely abandoned their rock roots for the electronic route which doesn't suit them well at all. Overall their last two albums have been pretty bad but I still have such good memories of their debut and A Beautiful Lie. This Is War was also solid and I liked half of Love, Lust Faith + Dreams.
I'm not so much hung up on that as they aren't even COMPETENT in this elector-pop mode. Like the songs are downright BAD even if you're into that genre.
I’m going to see them with AFI with my mom. AFI are one of my favorites and 30STM are one of my mom’s favorites. I loved their first two albums as a kid, but fell off. I’ll have to do a discography dive soon…
AFI will put on a great set! Thirty is just not very good anymore, their recent setlists do have them playing a lot more older stuff. Judging by the vids it seems Jared is singing a lot more now as well, hopefully you have a good time.
Have to be honest, I completely forgot he was still part of 30STM. Was there any live drums on their most recent album (don't remember anything from it)?
I don't think so. Last two albums have been terrible. Heard they are writing a rock album next—whatever that means in their camp any more.
Fingers crossed Modern Error makes a new album. They're like self-titled 30 Seconds with 100% less creep.
