If you're gonna listen to abusers in private that's fine you have every right to do so but please don't tell people that you do or try and justify the fact that you do

Or you can put on the work yourself instead of trying to discredit victims you fucking toad

Lol is anyone on here even a fan of the band, though? The last few pages have only been about how trash these new songs are and how they haven't done anything good in almost 10 years.

Seriously what is wrong with you man? Why are you twisting peoples words and trying to cause drama for no reason? At no point did I ever try to "discredit victims." I simply made a comment about how I've never heard of that website before. I'd love for major publications to pick up the story, I'd love for him to be exposed. All I was trying to say is he'll never get exposed if the accusations stay buried in an old story on an unheard of website.

If they're continuing to listen to the music and posting opinions about them, yes. I wish everybody would just stop listening to music from know shitty people.

A friend of mine pointed out that being able to "separate art from artist" shows how privileged some of y'all are. I can guarantee you the victims can't ever stomach listening to them. Yet 30STM amd Brand New are two bands who have massive draws at big gigs. If anyone is going to publicly announce that they still listen to artists like them, they better acknowledge their privilege, shut the fuck up, and reprioritize.

Lol what the fuck... chill out. He wasn’t “trying to discredit victims”, and you’re the only one here that’s repeatedly jumped to personal insults.

What the fuck do you mean by those two previous posts then when you have a difficult time forming an opinion of Leto just because of some "gossip website" you've never heard of?

Why are you asking me to show you more evidence and why are you downlaying victims as just "anonymous users on a groupie message board?"

You are absolutely downplaying the victims here and you are a shining example of what's wrong in the music industry, let alone the world at large. Take a moment to stop talking, take account of the immense privilege you have, and listen to victims and believe them.

Don't "lol what" me. I honestly don't want to hear it from a guy who openly admits to still listening to Brand New just because it got you through a difficult time. Give yourself some credit instead of a piece of shit like Jesse Lacey.

Fair, I don’t plan on discussing it again. I just wish people would acknowledge that it isn’t something that I think you should have to feel shame over... it’s just flat-out not the same as giving actual continued monetary support to someone after allegations like this come out.

I don't understand how you could not feel shame listening to the art of someone you know is an abuser but that's just me. It's not the same thing but it's not great either

You should not need to admit that you listen to an artist in private. That shows shame.

But it's whatever people can do whatever they want I just don't see why you'd waste your time trying to justify something that's not really justifiable

The answer to your question is in every one of my posts that you quoted. You ask: Why isn't the world acknowledging that Jared Leto is a sexual abuser? And I answer (3 times): The world isn't acknowledging it because the story isn't out there for them to see.
And lmao I called them "anonymous users" because that is how the article cited them. Stop trying to fight people. Just please stop. No one here is defending abusers or disbelieving victims. They just don't like you're shitty smug attitude.

I'm not an example of whats wrong with the music industry. The day Jesse Lacey's victims came forward I threw all my Brand New albums/merch in the trash. I support women's rights, I support my friends who've been victims, I donate to charities like Rainn. But nah, you wanna jump down my throat over a band that I'm not even a fan of. You're the one who needs reevaluating my friend.

I don't know. You are the one who is having a difficult time forming an opinion on Jared Leto when it should be painfully obvious which on to form. How dense can you be?

    Thank you!
I honestly don't know what I'm more ashamed of - that I've continued to enable this guy's anger issues, or that I've contributed this many posts in a friggin 30STM thread.

But this guy clearly has something else going on in his life that's causing him to take out his frustration on random people in a music forum. Hope he's able to cool off soon.

Why? Who is it harming? What’s the material impact on anyone else’s life of me listening to an album?

I disagree with the idea that art inherently loses all value to everyone because someone involved in making it is a terrible person. I believe all actions should be taken to end financial and public support of public figures who are credibly accused of abuse, but me listening to some albums I already bought doesn’t affect that. If I still have a connection to the art independent of who made it, what difference does it make to you?

It shows that I don’t want to show public support for the artists, or be misconstrued as continuing to defend an abuser. And clearly, I’m still being judged anyway despite not doing these things.

Dude my opinion on Jared Leto has been clear since the very first post...HE IS A PIECE OF SHIT. I've never defended him. If anything, I've been trying to support your feelings and trying to say this story should be more widespread.

But you just choose to make everyone your enemy and use childish insults. You've really got to grow up.

It's not about who is it hurting. But the fact that you're able to interact with artsy made by abusers is an extremely, extremely priveleged position. Some people can't hear art from abusers without thinking of what they've done. Especially their victims. You think the victims can separate art from artist? So the fact that you can and actively choose to spend time listening to their art instead of art made by people who haven't abused people is suspect at best. There's so many albums made by people who haven't done any harm to people you could listen to instead. There's other music to mine nostalgia from than the music made by abusers. You're making conscious choice to spend time with the art made by abusers though. That's unjustifiable to me and your memories with their music don't cut it as justification

Sadly these last few pages perfectly illustrate that its increasingly difficult actually I'd say impossible lately to have a healthy open discussion on Chorus anymore and frankly why so many users don't feel comfortable being on this site anymore.

You seem really confused about your support.

And don't ever assume anything is going on in my life outside of here ever again. If you need to take very personal potshots like that then you need to log off and get a fucking grip.

You're right. I would feel a lot more comfortable if everyone justifying their listening to abusers' music would just leave considering how many hoops they're jumping through to defend their shitty actions. This site would be a better place.

That’s hilarious coming from someone who called people “fucking toad” and to “get out of your ignorant bubble” over a discussion that didn’t need to become nearly as hostile as it did, until you chose to make it so.

There are ways to have these kinds of conversations, and ways not to have these kinds of conversations. Attacking people trying to have a reasonable back and forth, especially people espousing things we've all talked about before in regard to dealing with problematic art in the present and future, is just not ok.
