can someone catch me up on him being abusive? ive heard that hes a creep but never anything further or elaborated
And doesn't Shannon hardly ever perform with them anymore? So it's basically just the Jared Leto project now (I mean it always has been but... you know what I mean lol)
Looks like Tomo was in fact edited out of the band photos on event pages (this is from the LA show page):
This Is War is really good anthemic rock; output since has been downhill. "Kings and Queens" is a top 3 song of all time for me
Shocking that someone posted a link to how abusive this guy is and everybody followed to just talk about the music. Jared Lego is human fucking garbage
Wow it's almost as if the person who asked for that info hasn't posted again yet and the rest of us already know how trash he is
Just think it's alarming that y'all are okay listening to and supporting and well-known abuser's art. Real bad look if you ask me.
Personally I think there’s a distinction between listening to your old copies of someone’s music (which in this case I barely do anyway), and giving them continued financial support (which I don’t). In the case of Brand New for example... I’ll admit that I’ve occasionally listened to my old copies of their albums in the past few weeks, because those songs helped me through the toughest times in my life, and I feel like I can as a listener still choose to listen to them for my own personal attachment and separate that from what I know are horrible actions by one of the band members. To me, private listening like that is NOT at all the same as giving continued financial support. I know not everyone will agree, but that’s how I see it currently.
I'm sure Jared is a piece of shit, but it's hard to form an opinion on the matter when the only news article I've ever seen about it is from some gossip website I've never heard of.
there are multiple accusations. believe victims. A Reminder That Several Women Have Accused Jared Leto Of Sexual Assault
If you're initial instinct is to write off several accusations based on the website then you've got some serious reevaluating to do
So by that logic, would you go around wearing an old t-shirt of theirs? Cuz I certainly would not and I wouldn't be caught dead listening to them or Brand New or any of that shit because it's tough to separate art from artist cuz, you know, the artist created the art. I think if you need to justify your private listening, then you feel some shame for it. All you need to do is take it a step further and actually stop listening to music made by pieces of shit and realize that there's actually a lot of other music you can discover and build connections to. Stop living inside your ignorant bubble.
I think wearing a t-shirt implies not just endorsement of the music itself, but support of the "brand" of the band, the members, etc. So I don't think that's the same thing. My private connection to songs/albums that meant more to me than virtually any other artist's music during a period when I was dealing with the most severe depression and anxiety in my life doesn't mean I continue to support Jesse Lacey as a person, or his actions, or think he's "innocent" (and I don't believe any of those things). Yes, the artist created the art, but I really believe the connection formed with, and healing power of, music with a listener can be incredibly powerful independent of the artist who created it, and can still have value to an individual. I'm not harming anyone by continuing to listen to songs occasionally in private if I feel like it'll help make a day of heavy anxiety easier to manage. I didn't listen to Brand New at all for months after the revelations came out, and even in the rare times that I've decided to listen to some songs in the last few weeks, I haven't mentioned it publicly to anyone and haven't talked about it... I'm only mentioning it now because I think this is a key distinction. Again, that's just my viewpoint, but a lot of the discussion on the forums when the revelations came out was about this very issue and I don't think there's one "right" answer, and wish some users on here would quit casting moral judgments on the act of simply listening to an artist, which is not directly harmful to anyone else. I support victims and think these issues are incredibly important, and don't think this changes that. Stop oversimplifying to cast judgment on others for something that has no negative impact. My private listening to a band isn't harming anyone, and I still think it's not the same thing as supporting the musicians themselves, because I'm NOT going to be giving that band a single penny in the future.
Ok lets chill out. You show me an article that's two years old from an unheard of website with quotes from anonymous users on a groupie message board and you expect the world to immediately whip out their pitchforks. My gut says that Jared is a prick and a sexual abuser. I believe victims. I have nothing to reevaluate.
