Yeah, we've gone from "movie" to "no movie" to "still a movie". The only place we can go now is "dead".
in all seriousness, truly hope him making these statements means it's all but officially green lit. really really would love a conclusion to this.
I think most people are just having knee jerk reactions to the span of time based on how quickly we got bone temple after the first but that was only cause they shot them back to back. Everyone seems to be forgetting that
100% my feelings in general are more due to it underperforming in theatres and how quick some studios are to can stuff because of that. I’m happy to wait as long as we get it eventually. Was mostly shitposting earlier
I think the green light in December, then the uncertainty after the box office of Bone Temple, but hopefulness after the critical and fan response is what has everyone on edge. This comment gives me slightly more hope but there’s a lot of time between now and 2027 and since it isn’t the studio saying it, I’m still not super confident.
One would hope Sony would take into account the fumbling of the marketing for The Bone Temple’s failure and also realize that Cillian and Boyle returning would add some heft to this that maybe The Bone Temple didn’t have. But then again, Sony’s not known for good decisions.
Yeah everyone was pretty convinced the Bone Temple box office ruined the chance of a sequel, so this is definitely good news. I don't mind waiting now that it seems like more of a sure thing. If it's just essentially a scheduling conflict I'll take it
I think there's a bigger chance that Sony wants to keep getting critically acclaimed movies and keep a strong partnership with Boyle and Garland. Betting on the 3rd movie performing more than the 2nd and then being able to sell and market a complete trilogy.
Being worried is one thing but everyone acted like there was no chance it was ever happening, just seemed ridiculous
George Miller also says he wants to make another Mad Max movie but no one thinks that is really going to happen after the way Furiosa performed, despite critical acclaim. Movie studios do not care about critical acclaim.
Sony has a track record of killing things that would still make money, like Raimi’s Spider-Man 4. It’s not out of the realm of possibility since they lost their ass on this.
