And the mixed audience response to 28YL likely hurt what hope this one had too

honestly want to watch these back to back. I was high on 28YL when I watched it the first time but that kind of waned as time went on. Bone Temple will probably end up as an all-timer for me. It was 100% my shit.

  3. I feel like they marketed it a ton. Idk. I think it was more the hype of all the time off between the movies inflating the 28YL box office, the lack of any time off between these two, and the January dump

Definitely can't downplay the the fact that like half the country got absolutely shit on weather wise the 2nd weekend of it's release when the praise reviews were really hitting. My feeds were almost all people praising the movie after the first weekend

"Don't release movies in January" is the movie equivalent of "don't invade Russia in winter" but they thought they knew better.

Bummed to say while it had some moments, as a whole I was quite disappointed, and I LOVED the last one.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

saw this again with another friend who hadn't seen any of the series and it went down a treat, just a banger movie. I know Australia is not representative of the world but our showing was almost packed out and crowd was loving it

Oh yeah my friend and I both really liked 28YL!! Boyle’s style was pretty great and the ending rumination on death hit pretty hard, Finnes with a beautiful monologue there. And ATJ was good playing an asshole. The stop/start movement of the action from one angle to another was sick as hell.

second half of this movie is just so stacked man. the train scene and Iron Maiden scene almost back to back is the biggest flex

we missed the trees glow gold beneath.

loved the first one but this topped it for me pretty easily. much prefer the chemistry spike has with the jimmys and the increased focus on kelson. third act actually had me leaned forward in my seat, mouth agape for most of it. i was very moved.

    oof

  17. What's everyone seeing instead? Melania?

Is this because of the weather?

I hope at least Send Help does well. We need good January horror to keep being a thing

Can’t wait for the inevitable push/popularity it gets on streaming after they end up canceling part 3. Wonderful cycle

The third movie should do better financially than the previous ones if Cillian Murphy is signed on right?

  22. The latest I've seen is that he was still in talks, which is funny considering the end of Bone Temple.

Send Help will likely make its budget back this weekend. They’re still seeing Avatar and Zootopia 2 and whatever the flavor of the week is that weekend. But yeah, the terrible weather isn’t helping.

As said, “Bone Temple” was just apparently a miscalculation of a sequel financially. I hope it finds its legs on VOD and some star power can propel a third one.

I finally was able to see this on a day off from work. Great movie. If I'm being honest though, I didn't enjoy it quite as much overall as 28 Years Later. Still a really good movie with an absolutely killer last act & ending. Dragged a bit in the middle for me though in a way that the previous movie did not, and felt a little long, which checking the runtime now I see that it was not at all.

I think I wasn't quite as drawn in with the sadistic Jimmy Saville(?) murder gang and their unpleasant shenanigans as I was with the goings on of the first film, plus I missed Danny Boyle's kinetic direction a little bit. Not a knock on Nia DaCosta though - Boyle is a pretty singular filmmaker.

I really hope we get a third film though, and I will definitely be in line to catch it at the theater.

  25. I kinda said the same thing wrt how sadistic some scenes were. While I get what they were going for narratively/thematically I just really didn't like those scenes

As far as whether they make a third tho, I hope they realize that the ppl who like these past two films really really like them
