Alright man this was fun. Not as good as Years for me, and I think like others have said, I really kinda missed Boyle’s direction in this. Not that Dicosta did bad or anything, there’s just a certain Boyle aesthetic that works better for these movies I think. Kinda sucks we figured out what to do with the virus only for the only guy who knows that to bite it! the Iron Maiden scene does indeed fuck. That was so much fun lol. I had assumed Jimmies would be sticking around for the 3rd movie so was surprised to see the crucifiction. Not sure what’s gonna happen in the next one. Are we gonna see Sampson again? What shape will he be in? What is the convergence of Spike and Jim gonna lead to? I really need this now lol
I’d say the next one pretty much has to deal with the Holy Island, Spike’s dad, Sampson, Sampson’s baby, Spike, Kelly, Jim, and Jim’s daughter.
my probably incorrect guess is that Samson will be able to spread the cure in the same way the initial infection could spread
i dont think the 3rd movie is gonna have anything to do with a cure, but, i will simply cast no expectations and look forward to whatever we get when we get it.
Is there a reason why we wouldn’t? I thought Boyle basically said I’m making a trilogy and whatever studio said yeah sure?
They officially greenlit the third in December after the initial response to Bone Temple, but with the box office performance they could decide to cancel it. Wouldn’t be surprised, unfortunately.
Weeks is good and people should watch it. It just doesn't feel as essential as the other three films, all of which carry an extremely high bar imo
Honestly I’d take it straight to Netflix with their partnership with Sony as long as they just finish the story
There was a huge January movie last year or two years ago. It’s usually just a dumping spot for “bad” movies.
As said before, it really feels like everyone was hoping the success of 28YL and the praise for this would carry it, when it’s a combo of casual moviegoers are fickle and easily confused, so they don’t know what a bone temple is or thought this was 28YL DLC, and Sony didn’t seem to give this much of a push and it’s possible they were released too close to each other. Like, I don’t know what streaming service 28YL ended up on (I assume Netflix), but I haven’t heard much from anyone whenever it dropped on streaming. Feel like it just didn’t get much juice from there. Of course, this is all in retrospect. I thought this was just automatically gonna be a huge hit and never considered it would bomb.
this is exactly what it felt like to me, someone who never watched a single entry in the series until like 2 weeks ago lol
definitely am putting blame on the marketing/lack of. You gotta spoon fed people these days and the 6 month turnaround didn't help. hoping word of mouth helps for the final push. if Sony continued to release Spider-Man rogue gallery slop for years even with massive failures, I hope they will keep part 3 greenlit.
