Thought this mostly ruled and got me weirdly emotional which I wasn’t expecting! Expecting the next one to be significantly goofier based on this ending and with the title “The Bone Temple” but eh

Loved his character. Happy he wasn’t like a weirdo zombie hunter like the trailer half implied

  7. This movie is fucking crazy lol. Red filter and iPhone shit was so so so tight

Feel like the writing got a little muddled in the middle, but overall this was so ambitious and brutal with such good performances and direction and music that it's hard not to just take the ride for all it is

  8. Shell Station that just said hell was on the nose but also low-key sick lol. Definitely felt weirdly over the top at times but like...the dissonance whenever the music would be really uplifting as something brutal was happening on-screen made me feel feral (complimentary)

Come on Josh, the ending was perfect. Goofy ass Warriors shit. Huge tonal shift but it was so good lol

(to be fair, my initial reaction was “that was the ending?!?!” but I got over it real fast)

The ending reminded me of Shaun of the Dead a little bit, the way some of the stunts were filmed and all. Maybe I’m already forgetting but I thought I remembered some of those fast zoom-to-still camera shots of a flip or jump like they’d do in Shaun or hot fuzz.

But yeah it was interesting how half this film felt like it was filmed the same way/tone as the first two and the other half just had a completely different look/feel/tone to the way it looked. Chalk it up to the advances in tech and iPhones I guess haha

  16. Fiennes was so good in this

  17. iPhone use was during a lot of the kill shots that changed angles based on the photos of the rig that are out there

I really enjoyed this. It had a lot more heart than I was expecting out of a film like this. The last couple minutes was power rangers level bizarre though

oh. i thought he was asking about something else.

i believe everything in the movie was shot via iPhone but the rigs used are like insane things with like 20 phones at once

  21. Sorry, getting all of my thoughts out in here in real time. Kind of crazy how optimistic(??) this movie is considering the conversation in here about how bleak the previous two are, lol.

Also I understand the complaint about just how much Spike's abilities improve between the beginning and end of the film, but my thematic interpretation is that what he does for his mother is 10x more important to his coming of age than anything his father taught him. A more literal read is less fun, but the journey may have given him the confidence that was missing under the intimidating watch of his father

Ultimately where I'm landing is that even though it feels occasionally unfocused or tonally incoherent, it is unique and ambitious enough that I don't really care. Right side of bonkers for me and I'd like to see more horror that is executed like this both in vision and technical ability.

Yeah that was an interesting moment with what seemed like a brief humanization of an infected…wasn’t sure if that was supposed to point to something coming in sequels or just a one off
