And maybe this is also a Boyle characteristic, but the lighting in this was weird af; almost as if they purposely avoided using natural lighting for character’s faces, and instead used artificial lights off camera for almost all outside shots. Kept noticing it over and over (this is a me thing - I notice strange/off lighting in everything I watch).

 

The changing frame rates during Jodie Comer’s panic attacks and confusion made me nervous we were gonna see the whole in that sped-up way.

 

idk to your point i feel like it’s in keeping with danny’s style and the style of the original, though advancements in technology in the time since have definitely amplified that

Still trying to wrap my head around how two rage-infected zombies somehow mate and the female somehow manages to incubate and give birth to a seemingly perfectly healthy baby, a tough and delicate process in the best of times

 

And surely in the 28 years a vaccine would have been developed to cure the virus. Or that those survivors on that island would have been rescued, put in quarantine/tested, and then let free to roam the rest of the world.

Really really stupid ending. Actively made me mad. Liked most of it before that except for Mary Sue ass Spike. Oh we’re gonna almost die the first trip to the mainland but I’ll be able to go back and forth fine.

very sincere story in here that I enjoyed but Christ that ending STUNK

I don’t care that there’s a sequel in 6 months, if you’re going change the tone that wildly just have that open the next one

That’s what I first thought by the way the Alpha looks at the dead mom infected/chases them. Not saying it’s right or wrong but plenty or reviews are also coming to the same conclusion. ScreenRant/Vulture/Time.

Also would be fun to see some background on the island folk. Was rhe girl in the mask at the party “real” and why was she wearing a mask? Are the islanders actually the weirdos?

Yeah I mean I don’t know one way or the other. Obviously her becoming pregnant post infected doesn’t make nearly as much sense but that seemed like the initial implication to me

 

I really like that jangly piano song that played when we first meet the characters. Never heard of the band Young Fathers before, but that tune was solid.

 

Also, interested in seeing what Nia DaCosta will do with this. “Candyman” wasn’t great, but showed promise and “The Marvels” clearly got kneecapped by Disney and then she got smeared. Hope it’s a comeback for her.

 

I wish the boots poem was used more. Idk how it would have been. But it’s haunting and I liked it
