Swoos Draft Observations: 1. The commercials were absurd night one. Going to break every two picks should be a crime. That combined with less time to select a player meant we barely got any analysis of the picks. It was a terrible viewing experience. 2. The run of TEs was baffling to me. I think we will look back at this trend in a few years and laugh. 3. My least favorite R1 picks: Arizona taking Love was moronic. Great player, dumb pick. Miami taking Proctor over Downs and Bain. Two blue chip prospects available and they decide to take a tackle who needs to slide inside because he has weight issues. Seattle taking Notre Dame’s back up RB. Why? 4. My most favorite R1 picks: Tampa Bay getting Bain at #15. I think this is the biggest steal of the night. I hate that he went to a division rival. Chicago taking Thieneman in the mid 20s. Great landing spot for a great player. That team is going to be fun to watch. Giants getting Reese. I thought they were going to be left with a tough decision at this pick. Instead, a couple teams in front of them acted like dumdums and made it easy. 5. Overall draft classes I loved: Bucs, Colts, Browns, Jets, Ravens. 6. And finally, the Panthers: I love what we did. Freeling making it to our pick was a little surprising. Not sure why the general take was that we didn’t need a tackle. We clearly do. I wasn’t expecting to address DT on night two but I still like the pick. I think Hunter is a great fit next to Derrick Brown. Very excited to watch those guys get after it. Brazzell is round 3 is awesome value. I’ve talked about him in here before. He’s exactly what we need. TMac, Coker, Brazzell are all taller receivers and should work well together. XL has some pressure on him now. Hopefully it makes him lock-in and actually perform well. Day 3, not gonna pretend like I know all these guys. But I do love the Sam Hecht pick. I think he’s a starting C early in his career. Awesome pick.
Can not emphasize enough how few commercials there were in the draft zoom. Expert analysis the whole way through.
For the record I tried to stop it each time but Drew was either mentioning giannis or the packers every fifteen seconds
Good afternoon to everyone who wasn’t labeled a draft loser by draft gurus despite trading their first round pick at the deadline and then promptly losing 8 more games and missing the playoffs
That reminds me of a draft observation I forgot to mention… 7. Jets had a great draft. I’m excited for them to trade their good picks from this year for first round picks in a few years so we can celebrate yet another great draft haul for them.
There’s a lot of DiScOuRsE about Ballard going very SEC-heavy and having a sound byte about it being the highest level of competition in football, and it’s very silly, as if: a) there aren’t 20ish teams that are a level above the rest at recruiting and developing NFL, of which over half are in the SEC b) it being a slight against the Big 10 when he also drafted from Ohio State and Oregon this year, who are in that same group of 20, and took exclusively Big 10 players on the first 2 days last year c) comparing to past classes that had a lot more smaller school guys who panned out, as if NIL didn’t fundamentally change that in the past 2 years
What does that mean? Who is the bet to be the number one pick? Probably arch and Dante Moore just like we’ve known for six months now haha if you mean a riser who wasn’t projected to be that high prior to the season, sorsby doesn’t really count either since he was already projected to go in the top 10. But probably Josh Hoover if Indy cooks again
Last year’s early mocks were hilarious though. Cade Klubnik was projected as a top pick despite showing nothing that represented a top pick. I never understood the hype when it started. Came out of nowhere.
