Do that, trade down from 3 and now you have some serious runway to have some fun.

I wouldn’t want this regime drafting another QB and then getting fired the following offseason when it doesn’t immediately come together, and you gotta do something to try to win with the Burns / Lawrence / Nabers core before they get either old or walk for nothing like McKinney and Saquon did

it’s extra good if it means you get to add whichever of Carter and Hunter falls to 3 to add another stud to that core. And extra extra good if Hunter is playing any meaningful time at WR so that you have a competent QB to develop him

oh I'm not saying they definitely should take a QB at 3 either. I think I'd rather give Darnold 2 years $100 mill guaranteed and see what he's got and load up the rest of the roster.

This obviously all depends on the price too. If the Rams just wanna be rid of Stafford and give him away for a 3rd or something? Sure who cares, go for it. I just wouldnt trade premium assets for an old QB when your roster is dogwater.

 

this is why i mostly dont like it. they are not in a win now mode. they are not a quarterback away from a super bowl run.

but hey, if stafford can get them into the playoffs and get frisky and fun, who am i to turn my nose up at it?

It’s a small (no pun intended) sample size, but the last several weeks of the season he was genuinely very good. The Dallas game was rough, but their DL wreaked havoc. Otherwise, he was clearly leading our offense and making other guys better. Really hope he continues to grow because he was so exciting to watch in that span.

that’s fair. Ultimately, I think any strategy other than “acquire someone like Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, etc or find the next one” is a losing long-term strategy, but that’s not super helpful considering that the Giants need a player behind center next season and none of these veteran options are that

I’m of the opinion that every team, and especially every team without a star QB, should have at least one lotto ticket rookie contract QB on their roster in the off chance you hit on getting a Dak Prescott or a Brock Purdy and this class seems fine enough for that at least
