I think one of the things people don’t fully internalize is just how few homers are hit to the opposite field. Most players generate all their power to the pull side and up the middle, while very elite power hitters are able to muscle up and get a ball out to the opposite field

A hallmark sign of a good power hitter imo is opposite field power. Soto, Judge, etc have it in spades and seeing young players like James Wood of the Nationals hit to the opposite field with power is really encouraging for continued development

caminero’s first career homer was an oppo taco and one of the reasons i felt so good about the rays moving on from isaac paredes

the dude has easy elite bat speed, but maybe not the kind of strength to get these consistently right now, but at (almost) 22 he has a lot of time to fill out and mash

 

that's such a great swing. it's one thing to go with an outside pitch and hit it out, it's another to hit a middle-in pitch out to the opposite field, much more difficult
