i’m so glad yandy isn’t tainted by greed for the almighty dollar and loves the rays because he’s agreed to a pair of extensions over the last several years that will pay him half what pete is getting while providing the same value thank you yandy, you deserve so much but ask for so little
I am in no way, shape, or form a Mets fan, but we cannot possibly be talking about Soto vs Alonso and which one makes more sense, right? Let's be serious, guys
Well if youre sinking 20% of your budget into one player and we're saying he may not even play the field in a few years.....and youre saying theres a budget.... then maybe you'd rather spread that money around to other positions. And then you dont want to give another player over half of that because of his defense.... I mean. Lol
Okay im pumped for the Orioles season this year. Offense is mega loaded but I agree they desperately need pitching (like another team i know)
But you already have Soto and everyone knew the possibilities when he signed. Why would you now want to do the same thing for less with another player? They can't both move into the DH slot and you can't deny that you would want Soto as your DH 100 times out of 100 over Alonso. You can argue that the Soto signing was for too much money, but to retroactively apply that standard just because you didn't also sign Alonso seems silly.
I didnt want to sign Soto last year if there was gonna be a budget. Id rather pete dh and allocate the other 20mil to other players and other positions
I don't follow the O's closely, either, but if I were making bets, I'd say you have a better chance sticking with the Mets. I don't think you're going to find what you're looking for in Baltimore
Assuming they want Soto to stay past his opt out in four years, no chance they can make him a full time DH before that point
these are not comparable things. you had a team not signing Murphy because they HAD no money at the time. Stearns seemed to make it fairly clear he doesn't believe in Pete's bat aging well. He only came back last year because they read the market wrong. Pete had an offer to stay 2 years ago long term if he wanted to.
it's a bummer to see Pete go but it isn't that surprising. Can't judge anything until we see what the team fully looks like in March.
Well right. They saved a whopping 2.5 mil by signing neil walker at the time The comparison is the mets, for me, not seeing the value in their own players and how the fans attachment to them can overweight a few more dollars or years vs a lesser player that has better metrics. Idk what else Pete could do to prove his worth to a fan base that would support him regardless and for a player that wanted to be a Met.
ownership has turned over and is much better so far. pitching is hopefully next. Framber and Cabrera from Marlins via trade? Would love imai but don’t think we can pull a top Japanese player
If you’re gonna jump ship on your team so quickly, why not choose to be a fan of a team that’s experienced a single modicum of success in the past 30 years
