2025. Our starting pitching was absolute dogshit. By September we had no idea who would be starting day in and day out. The issue couldnt have been mkre obvious right. So what how do we fix this? Fuck the fans. Best mets offensive player of all time gone....best closer Mets have had in forever gone... scrappy long time Met who is a gamer through and through gone...
this isnt about giving him $31m in 2026. its about giving him $31m in 2030, when he is almost assuredly not playing first base anymore. again, absolutely do not blame them because he is becoming a defensive liability at first base and they want to prioritize defense its so easy to say this now. what if pete's $31m in 2030 coming off a 16 HR season is the reason they decide not to target a bigger player? "thats not my problem" sure but it is their problem. if youre gonna root for a team that wont even compete for its own division at least stay with the mets.
That's not a giant contract. For a guy that can still produce in the next 3 years and has vslue outside of just baseball. If he DH last 2/3 years. OK? So what This isnt a salary cap.
Im sorry to me also its not JUST about my logo winning a championship. I want to win with certain guys. It feels all the more special. A guy who literally produced the entire time he was here....we said fuck you, your defense is mid and what if you suck in 4 years? If money is an issue than I circle back to not being excited about Soto signing
I mean look, Nimmo and Alonso had both expressed their desire to be a Met for life. They both were seen as leaders in the clubhouse. And the Mets traded one and didn’t even offer a contract to the other. It’s a slap in the face to a lot of people both in the organization and the fans alike. I get it’s a business and you do what you have to do to win and you can’t just throw around contracts for sentiment if they don’t make sense (though I’d disagree that giving a 31-year old 30+ HR hitter a 5 year deal would be inherently a bad decision). they decided to break up the core of the Mets when the core wasn’t the problem to begin with. But anyway let’s see what David stearns decides to do. He clearly has some plan. I don’t like it but I don’t have to.
This is actually what would make me mad as a fan, way more than not signing him. Even if they knew they were not going to pay him the amount it was going to, they should've at least formally offered what they were willing to pay unless they truly just didn't want him back.
The mets always fucking do this. They think theyre so much smarter than the rest of baseball lol its unbelievable. This is like Daniel Murphy x1000. "Murphy was a met favorite and delivered in the clutch, literally in the playoffs rhe year before but fuck him. NEIL WALKER is the answer"
do you really want to compare Juan Soto's offensive potential as DH (when the time comes) over Pete Alonso's lol do you really want to do that?
i can see not wanting to have pete and soto both having to primarily fill the DH role long term because you’re not exactly gonna platoon them
it's not an amazing point lol if you watched 15 minutes of a mets game this season you have no real issues with soto's defense. everyone makes blunders now and then. like the back to back mvp dropping a routine pop up in the world series. yankee fans just still gotta find a way to yap about soto because theyre still not over it lol
Need to catch up on what the O’s have been doing. See they’ve been busy. Need to get busy with pitchers tho
