I don't know that I'd say there were pros or cons about the rule.

Was it silly? Sure. But traditions are fun. And it made them tangibly different than every other team. It's that simple to me (and I'm generally change averse anyway). I grew up with the rule. I liked watching games with friends/family and ribbing the players that had too much scruff on their face ("better shave that shit before George sees ya"). I liked when the guys would all inevitably grow mustaches because they couldn't do anything else. I enjoyed seeing guys come over and shave. I enjoyed seeing guys leave and grow a beard immediately.

I found it fun, that's all. Whatever, now they're like every other team. Not a big deal, but also something I never campaigned for and would have voted against.

shirt, no. I've had those over the years. Jersey shouldn't have it. Do other teams sell the jerseys without names? Maybe they do, but that would also seem silly if they did

 

are the yankees the only team with no names traditionally? i feel like the tigers also don't but maybe just on home whites?

 

cubs didn’t for a period in the mid 00s, like maybe 2004-6 or something


none of the old teams did way back in the day and jersey number was decided by batting order but I don’t know when last names got introduced

That shit drives me crazy. I hate when any team sells jerseys with names on the back if the ‘real’ jersey doesn’t have them. It makes them look fake/cheap.

 

Red Sox home uniforms don’t have names on the back. I think they are the only other team. Tigers have the names on them.
