lol I missed that the Brewers traded for a guy that will never play for them…see that in the NHL a lot but I’m not sure how common that is in the MLB

 

My baseball-obsessed brother is down in the dumps about this Twins news, getting rid of so many players and the ownership situation. Hopefully they can find a willing buyer to take ownership away from the awful Pohlads.

 

My brother and I are trying to take it all in after yesterday. The Twins needed a reset but trading somebody like Varland away made no sense. They had a chance to get some big prospects but the returns feel very underwhelming.

My biggest fear is the team isn't sold anytime soon and ownership is pocketing any last dollar they can. It feels like the team was set back 30 years and we're entering the dark ages of the 90s again. We were at the playoff series win vs Toronto in '23 and thought we were entering a new golden age. Instead ownership decided that was good enough and immediately began cutting payroll and started heading towards this fire sale.

I know angry fans say just stop following/supporting the team. But it's emotional, like music. I have memories with my dad, grandpa, and brother. And I'm looking forward to passing that on to my sons. Days like yesterday are a harsh reminder the business side of baseball can gut the emotional side in no time at all

But they kept the starting pitching, maybe new owners come in and actually spend some money. Just as hope springs eternal in the spring it also has to after a trade deadline fire sale

 

I have an open seat next to me at the table of dispair.

Reading this feels like where White Sox fans were in 2023. Takes a lot to still care while the team is absolute dogshit. Paying attention to prospects helped last year. Seeing those same guys produce this year and continue to improve helps even more. But I wore my gear all season, laughed at how bad the team was, and still went to games. They're my team through thick and thin and that is something I can never give up.

I will say, in hindsight, the White Sox took it on the chin but seem to have done some things right. Cancer existed throughout the org and it's been cut out in large chunks. The difference with the Twins, however, is that I can't say the Pohlads give a fuck about winning. Jerry may be cheap but I believe him when he says he cares.

idk if i’d be as pessimistic about a long uncompetitive drought for the twins but it wasn’t my team that just had a massive fire sale (that was last year ) so i can’t blame twins fans for going through it
