I still feel pretty much the same:

outside of him becoming a lemon, the possibilities seemingly are:

he balls out and opts out, and the Red Sox have a year in which they don’t need to overly rely on Kristian Campbell coming up and being great right away

or

he’s fine to good, maybe ends up being a slight overpay when all is said and done, but is a decent bat in a park he hits in well and the defense is solid to good

much better than getting the rotting husk of arenado

 

I think this is where I’m at. His Fenway numbers are good. It will prevent them from rushing Campbell or Grissom (or Mayer). I don’t know what his defense at second base is like but it can’t be any worse than Emmanuel Valdez. He’s declining but I don’t think he will fall off a cliff, and three years isn’t particularly prohibitive. Fine with me

Yeah that’s an easy contract to deal with. And again, there is no cap no matter what your GM likes to pretend so it truly does not matter

Love the deal since it’s only 3 years max. If he’s good and opts out it means he earned his money by playing well. I don’t care what he’s getting per year, it’s the years that matter the most.

He gives the Sox a right handed bat that they badly needed, brings leadership, post season experience and a solid glove at 2B or 3B.

It also gives their infield prospects more time to develop so they’re not being rushed. If Campbell is ready sometime this year it gives the Sox flexibility to move Bergman to 3B and pushes Devers to DH.

Also Campbell can play LF and pushes Raffaela to a super utility/defensive replacement spot if he’s ready and Anthony isn’t.
