I finished all the movies from 2025 that I needed to see so this is my final, "official" list. 1. Afternoons of Solitude 2. It Was Just an Accident 3. The Secret Agent 4. Caught by the Tides 5. Grand Tour 6. One Battle After Another 7. Misericordia 8. Resurrection 9. The Mastermind 10. Blue Moon 11. Nouvelle Vague 12. Sirat 13. Viet and Nam 14. Marty Supreme 15. On Becoming a Guinea Fowl 16. Henry Fonda for President 17. If I Had Legs I'd Kick You 18. Cloud 19. The Shrouds 20. Weapons Before I know certain people say it, Eddington was 21. It came down to the two of them and the memes for Weapons were better.
Both Linklater movies moved up in estimation over the last few months, Sirat down a little. I am starting to get tired of the Mastermind because I keep getting the MUBI ad on YouTube.
This is pretty heavy, man. Another hour of it seems punishing but I will continue. I guess my main takeaway so far is how far the odds are favor of the matador. It’s a glorified wrestling match, with people stepping in at the first second of actual danger for him. At the same time, they spend those monotonous van rides hyping him and his huge balls up. At the same time….again… this is a life or death sport. He could be killed in a split second any time he enters the ring, the fear is definitely in his eyes. The death rattle of the bulls puts a lead ball in my stomach every time they show it.
I have a few I need to see from @Morrissey’s list above but I can go without Afternoons of Solitude. Want to also catch The Voice of Hind Rajab though I know it will break my heart
It's a commentary on our death drive. We sanitize death as much as possible but we rubberneck in every traffic accident. Bloodsport has existed for so long, even though we like to believe we have evolved.
Lol this has more studio cards than any movie I’ve ever seen. If it were a parody I’d be like alright enough
Sure, it was not bad and it was well shot and I am going to think about it. There were just a lot of narrative features that I think offered much more
It was that way with a lot of international films from last year. It also might have something to do with him smuggling the film out of the country to have it released.
