I still have a few things to see, mainly The Secret Agent and Testament of Ann Lee, and the order would probably change a little if I had more time/got to re-watch some of these films, but I think these were probably my 10 favorites of 2025. 1. Eddington 2. One Battle After Another 3. The Shrouds 4. No Other Choice 5. Marty Supreme 6. Sinners 7. Train Dreams 8. Weapons 9. It Was Just An Accident 10. Resurrection Honorable Mentions Relay (while not perfect, I had a blast watching this. highly recommended) Twinless Sorry, Baby Splitsville The Assessment Documentaries (I only separated these because I don't think I'd rank any of them higher than anything in my top 10, but I still think they deserve some love) 1. The Perfect Neighbor 2. This is the Tom Green Documentary 3. Grand Theft Hamlet 4. The Alabama Solution 5. Secret Mall Apartment Honorable Mentions The Librarians *Smiles and Kisses You*
lol I realized I forgot to put Wake Up Dead Man on my list. Gonna edit it in at, uh… 9? Right above 28 Years Later? Hard to decide if to put it above or below that one, but Josh O’Connor and the faith themes really hit for me.
Man, I forgot that I went to theater to see “I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025).” That was worse than “War of the Worlds (2025).”
Plenty I need to catch up on and a lot I haven’t been able to see yet which will roll over to 2026. I know some rewatches would change things up but not thinking too much about it. First 20 loosely ordered, rest alphabetical.
I exist in a weird limbo where I can’t go see The Secret Agent in a theater but our arts council throws all their funding behind a film festival that is relatively underattended. I watched Sound of Falling there and what was allegedly the North American premiere of Yes which maybe 30 people were present for and atleast a few walked out.
The 2025 films I am still waiting for are Direct Action, Sound of Falling, Henry Fonda for President, and Magellan. Peter Hujar's Day just came out on VOD today and Father Mother Sister Brother is opening in Orlando on Friday.
At some point you can’t wait til May of the following year to finalize your list lol, Magellan is absolutely a 2026 film by my extremely loose metric
I usually end up making my "final" list around June, but in the last few years it has gotten a lot easier with the rush to streaming. If Frederick Wiseman releases a film I am almost always waiting for his movie into the summer of the next year.
2025 Films (Every new film I’ve seen ranked) 1. One Battle After Another 2. Avatar: Fire & Ash 3. Fantastic Four: First Steps 4. Superman 5. Happy Gilmore 2 6. Weapons 7. Thunderbolts* 8. Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning 9. Final Destination: Bloodlines 10. Tron: Ares 11. Caught Stealing 12. Mickey 17 13. Captain America: Brave New World 14. Friendship 15. Eddington 16. Sinners 17. Jay Kelly 18. Good Fortune 19. Companion 20. The Gorge I still have to see Marty Supreme, Bugonia, The Secret Agent and more but didn’t want to delay making this list too much longer.
Deciding on what to watch tn from peoples’ lists. Do I need to care about sports or baseball to enjoy Eephus?
Both sound good but think I’ll be watching Universal Language tonight, since @Long Century first recommended it to me in good faith after I shat on Sinners and all of Chorus.fm came after me with torches and pitchforks
I’m not big on baseball or masculinity, and Eephus was still one of my favorite movies of the year. Works real good if you’re like, “oh dang, I’m getting old, and I’m not really close to my old friend group.”
