Yup. Actually not that bummed about losing him. Not worth that term and money and can be replaced by someone younger and cheaper. A 3rd round pick for someone you were just gonna lose for nothing next week is a solid trade.
Wouldn't call Byram mediocre. He's solid at both ends of the ice, albeit better offensively, but he wants #1 d-man ice time and pay and was buried here behind Dahlin, Power, and Samuelsson. Getting a 4th overall pick for that and unloading Greenway's cap hit as well is an absolute steal.
Canes fans, why would they let Nikishin go? I don't get it. I've heard about this guy for years. Its not like they cant pay him...
I think the team would be perfectly fine keeping him and giving him a contract. But we also have some good defensive prospects behind him. So if another team wants to give us a big piece for him, it might make sense.
I think the thought is that that Nikishin is good enough to be a top 4 defensemen and probably would be right now on a lot of teams, but Canes already have Slavin and Miller at LHD so he's bound to be stuck on the third paring here. I don't think that they necessiary want to trade him, but given the market and if you can get a big player like Hellebyuck out of it then it might be too hard to pass up, and they can do so comfortably with the other defensive prospects they have that look NHL ready.
really sounds like Robertson wants to play in a specific place rather than hee doesnt want to play in Seattle for that $$ could be wrong.
Been sitting with Robertson stuff for a while now and I've come to terms with moving him as long as the return is good and also as long as we don't end up with Dylan Larkin. I'm feeling good about the former and terrible about the latter. But yeah if he's rejecting the Mikko deal and wants the Draisaitl deal then there's just no way we can keep him.
I sit here and I’m like he would still be in sharks ideal timeline but I don’t know if they want to kinda have a cost controlled top 10 d man that’s years out or maybe take a swing at him.
