budget-dependent but your best bet for a really nice tele is one not made by fender. you can get used nash and a few other builders teles for the cost of a new MIM tele and they play like fender custom shop teles that sell for 5x the price

 

Sadly I was a poor growing up so my SG was like 300 bucks and my amp/effect pedal my dad basically found in a dumpster. I never got to go too deep on everything so now that I can actually afford this shit myself, this will be a fun thing to research for me.
