his stuff with weezer isn’t like incredible guitar playing or anything but he’s literally a berklee trained guitarist lol, the dude shreds like steve vai and yngwie stuff (that im totally allergic to, to be clear) very convincingly. he’s an extremely talented guitarist, his band just doesn’t always show it lol. you can see it in interview stuff on youtube.

yeah. There’s something to be said for guys like Tom Delonge and Rivers Cuomo who are able to sustain success over decades and remain in the zeitgeist for however long they have. I’m not going to say they are technical savants, but I bet a ton of other guitarists on the best of lists would give up one of their testicles for half of their career success.

 

the difference is that tom technically sucks and has never been “good” even if he is influential. rivers is actually technically extremely good which is honestly more frustrating when on the green album he’s like “hey what if every solo just matches 1:1 with the chorus melody”

I think they were both influential in bad ways lol

not that Travis isn’t extremely skilled, but while overplaying the shit out the drums works for blink 182, he inspired drummers to do that in music where it doesn’t work and where they’re more interested in being the main character than fitting the band haha

sure but I mean that currently right now massive pop artists are putting travis on their songs to basically recreate the blink sound. they aren't doing that with tom. travis is a bigger musician than he has kind of ever been in this very moment.
