I'm spiraling a little bit about work today (and lately really). And I guess about late stage capitalism etc etc but mostly just like. I know this is a dead end. I know they want to kill off my product and move me onto another and ~allegedly~ I will have a role there but there's no moving pieces actually pushing us in that direction and it just feels like no one knows what they're doing. But it's so hard to look for other jobs when every job is trying to reduce staff more than increase staff in the first place. And what if I do find another job I like and then just get laid off from that?

Then there's the idea of starting a business with some of the money I have but it'd be so easy for that to fall apart too and then what, I end up homeless because I didn't like work at my other job? And in a normal world I could weigh the risk/reward but in this situation with head cheeto calling the shots it makes it hard to predict how anything will be so everything feels immensely riskier.

This would go in the mental health thread if I felt comfortable posting there rn. Might delete this but I dunno, I'm just kinda going through it.

It’s so bleak and really kinda mean spirited out there. I spent all week hearing from our customers how our product has helped them reduce headcount and I’m just like “that’s something you’re proud of??”

They just did another wave of layoffs here for some of the international employees (which like...sucks for them but it was also a bad decision to fire employees before and go international? So they're kinda in the "find out" phase after completing the "fuck around" phase so very unsurprising) and we haven't heard anything from our parent company at all, until this morning when they made a big announcement about "the company's #1 rugby fan!!!!" and I'm just like it is so fucking tone deaf right now

at my company's town hall, the Q&A section was like "what shows are you watching right now?" absolutely nothing about anything of substance. it was infuriating.

the only positive is that i cover a topic that remains popular and in demand for readers and they keep insisting our team/coverage is particularly important.
