Of course but it’s not only desire for living luxury that moves me here. It’s a necessity for two reasons

    1) I didn’t have a car for four years. Could not live anywhere that did not accommodate my need to bike and walk to work and to errands.

    2) I know yall respect that music is my passion and I treat it like a business I’m investing in for my live shows to really pay off. If I want any chance of doing that I really gotta be in an area like this with a poppin music scene and other nearby cities with poppin music scenes

i’m thankful for Baltimore for being the only place where all that calculus maths out, where the best restaurants in town pay just enough for me to be able to have this. It’s now or never to finally start working on the album because I might not have that disposable income again in the future unless I’m already selling a released album to finance a new one

yeah, it's just hard for me to wrap my head around some of the houses you've shared and the prices they're going for. like I see them and think "not a chance in the world"

obviously the stuff with your dad makes it a lot harder too.

sorry man, I know I've occasionally been an ass about it lol

You're cool. They're def insane, but again, it's a bit relative. I def make more living here than I would elsewhere. The income and the house price don't keep pace but it's obviously closer than being paid like I live in Oklahoma and then considering moving out to Boston if that makes sense. I literally negotiated into my salary a "hey I live in Boston" fee lol.

The thing with my dad that makes me want to stay near them more than anything else is, whenever he does go, and hopefully it's 20 years from now, my mom doesn't really handle driving well. So she's going to be alone in that house and grieving forever, so the idea of finding a house that works for us, has a good school system, that we can be happy in, but also that we can see her or she can drive to us, is def something to keep on the priority list for me.

The local United Way office for 2-1-1 is looking for a new Executive Director, which starts at over $100,000 which is hella tempting. But I really like my current gig.

feels like there's really no way to ask this without sounding a least a little condescending so please know off the bat that's not how i mean it to come across, but i am genuinely wondering, how is the restaurant job that you just got a seemingly very good promotion at handling you leaving for 2-3 weeks to go on tour? are they totally fine and accommodating? do you get any kind of PTO?

i have to imagine the housing math at a music hub college town like an athens or Gainesville or chapel hill (probably least so this one) is more affordable with just as many music resources than a Baltimore or Philly

I was wondering the same thing, primarily because getting a week off (in a row), once a year, in a position I've had for over a decade and one in which I hold a relatively large amount of power... is a whole thing.

According to a report by Bill Belichick, Chapel Hill is the place to be.

the lead Somm has been on like 3-4 vacations since he got hired in the summer lol. I’ve actually not really used my PTO. If I took too many trips during too many busy periods that would be an issue but that’s always easily resolvable by talking to my manager months ahead of time before planning anything

Restaurants being super flexible has always been a draw of me sticking to it and simply working at better restaurants. I wouldnt have nearly as much leeway to take time off work for my band in most office jobs. The main concern is not going on vacation the same time as other full time employees and I plan my shit EARLY for my band so it’s usually not an issue
