Just to throw in my two cents where it's not being asked for: I initially read Morgan's comment as "Maybe it wouldn't be boring to you if it was more relatable to you, like it is to me." I've gone back and read it a few times and still feel that was the intention of the post. Not "you may not criticize queer artist if you're not queer" and I found it odd that it turned into that rather quickly, and then it got rather personal fairly quickly after that. I said yesterday I think there were valid points to all ends of the discussion, but there seemed to be a commitment to communicating them as poorly as possible, and yeah, that still feels very true. I think it's not asking a great deal of people, it's really asking the same we all beg of Randall, to listen to what others are saying and not double down but instead consider their opinion and apologize. And that goes for everyone in the argument, not singling out Josh or Elf or anyone else who participated.

to be completely clear here, I feel like I've seen Morgan have similar responses to criticisms of other queer media/queer representation in media (yellowjackets and the last of us) and that absolutely colored my response to the entire thing

 

i agree morgan's posts could be interpretted that way but I think pretty quickly and pretty clearly the conversation turned from that almost immediately. i would not say the tenor of the argument was defensive until after that happened.

i figured that is what you meant, dave, but again I don't really feel like anyone was being defensive against morgan until matt, and to a much lesser extent randall, started speaking for her/her community and then yes it got very defensive, probably too much so

they're playing a massive ampitheater here too. like, I'm sure they have done their market research. ideally it would be them playing this massive venue and it being empty but, I'm not a fool, I know that shit is going to be packed to the gills. depressing.

one small thing that gives me some hope in humanity is that, a lot of videos of their shows last week are appearing in my tiktok feed, and a lottttt of the comments are very anti-BN and downright shaming the people there. usually i think that chorus is the only place that even cares about this but, its at least nice to see that there is a seemingly larger population of people out there who do not fuck with this.
