i don't wanna keep continuing this i just wanna say for the record I have no reason to dislike a lucy record going in. as Ive said in the past, not to pit them against each other, but her music is the most engaging stuff from the boygenius camp to me and I think her first two records are borderline genius and she puts on a great live show. i think there's something to what I have seen in a lot of the reviews, written by a variety of people, that there seems to have been some complacency with the music now that she has achieved a bigger level of fame and budget. she should have kept working with her team from the past. there is no record produced by blake mills that is better than a record by that artist previously (just look at the recent Japanese breakfast record if you need another example of this). the dude doesn't have the juice. and with bartees being a producer, as well, I feel similarly about his own music as I do to lucy's. I'm happy for them that they got paid and are borderline household names now, it just makes for music coming from a boring perspective as a songwriter than where they were at previously.
