Here’s another example that doesn’t apply to you that you might actually see where she’s coming from - a lot of white people hate violence in rap music and think it’s ignorant, because they don’t understand the catharsis someone who grew up with trauma from gun violence feels, from their paranoia being seen in the music they listen to. They see it as the rap music PROMOTING gun violence, and miss the actual message of people commiserating about how awful it is and how if you don’t get armed and establish yourself with status you’re just a target

 

i think it's okay to obviously say that you find more connection to something because you come from a place where you can relate to it more. other people not having that connection to a piece of art doesn't exempt them from thinking it's boring lol come on.

by the same extension I could say you aren't a musician and it shows

The difference is straight people don’t have a limited amount of media sources they can feel seen in and relate to. Like no one listens to Bloodhound Gang and thinks “I feel so seen as a straight man” and develops that kind of connection with it haha
