Update on the guy who got hurt: somehow, by some lucky chance, he only ended up spraining his ankle and massively bruising his leg/knee area. What a huge relief to him and to the amount of chaos his prolonged absence was about to cause.

I’m finally in a role with some leverage though so that’s nice. Current sommelier is only here two years cause his wife is on the GM track at Four Seasons Hotels and they make her move and manage a different hotel every couple years (wild to me lol). Given what I know already and how capable I already am of selling wine with my current knowledge, it’s way cheaper and easier for the restaurant to retain me and keep me under his mentorship as a potential replacement than find a THIRD top quality sommelier in 3 years off the talent pool

 

Also stoked there’s a chance that by the time I’m 36 I’ll be making actually solid money that I can save for the future and maybe one day buy a house with, in an industry not easily replaced by AI or erased by the government (though it IS very economy sensitive)
