Also, we spent less than $5,000 total on our wedding, so I wouldn't say we were rolling in it.

My mother in law did not have money, but she had good life insurance, I guess. And a house that we sold. And a car. It adds up.

Laura's dad actually did not have money at all, they just had a house in Portsmouth they had passed down from like 3 generations and since it was in Portsmouth it was worth a shit ton so Laura's mom sold it after he died. But they lived very frugally because they did not have the money that other people in Portsmouth have and were considered pretty poor

    My family did/does though yeah

My mom's family had some money, unfortunately she married into a poor family, and fell into that side of things...

My parents have some money and so does my one aunt who never got married or have kids but I hate even thinking about that.

My father in law has money and has informed us that when he goes (I think he's convinced it will be soon because his parents died young, but unless he's got a secret illness, I think he's just a worry wart) we will get a significant amount of money.

My dad is flat broke and always has been. My mother is pretty average

Yeah I've had to have a lot of conversations about that stuff lately due to the status of my parents and my grandma and I never feel good having those talks

My grandpa had money (hated by all his kids and didn't leave anyone much of anything) and I have a couple uncles with money but I think that's about it.

My grandfather started a business many moons ago. My mother wasn't allowed to be a part of it because she is a girl. My two uncles then took it over and made it much bigger and now both are multi-millionaires. One uncle is the Trumper who hates me and my family and the other uncle is like...fine...but is definitely a snake oil salesman selling a self-help book for conquering anxiety, and is generally just kinda aloof.

My mom's brother was some VP at PPG for a while, and did super well. Now he lives in some swanky retirement community in the mountains of Tennessee ignoring the fact that his daughter is gay and complaining online that he lives on a fixed income.

It's not a fixed income if you're living on a million-dollar pension, Fred.

My father's family supposedly started Eckerd's Pharmacy or the company that would become Eckerd's or something like that and then something happened and they didn't get any money from it. Idk. Always sounded fishy, but also totally something that side of the family would do, so who knows

At the time that I was a child I didn't think I was being traumatized and then as I got older I was like "oh moms AREN'T supposed to drink through a box of wine every few days" so idk, maybe you are

Apparently my uncle, the asshole that he is, waited until my grandfather was 90 and alone in Florida to work through his complicated feelings and just remove him from his life. His kids had a baby recently and they can't even be bothered to send the man a photo of his new great grandkid. Meanwhile they've also not in anyway reached out to my family regarding Dad's diagnosis, but I know they know about it.
