I've only been to a couple of the bigger venues down in Houston like Warehouse Live, House of Blues, and Bayou Music Center. all are really cool though but that was over 10 years ago with my ex lmao

 

i'm fully out on nostalgia and anniversary tours. find another way to charge me $50 for something and i'll do it. i know these guys gotta eat and feed families but i'm done pretending it isnt just a cheap quick moneygrab from your fanbase.

 

I love going to shows and think it's a great time but I respect the reasoning to not do so

I also do not drink which makes it a lot cheaper

 

I went to the Drive By Truckers one and it was great but yeah couldn't care less about most of em

When I was young, dumb and full of c*m I would go to shows all the time

 

I also don't like straight-through album playthroughs in general. Make a setlist that makes sense for live music please

Literally every issue Sean pointed out is generally not a thing at local shows :)

Even “getting home late on work nights” it’s not as much of a commitment where it’s like “I spent $86 and waited months for this band so I have to force myself to finish the whole show and encore”

it’s more like “eh, they play too late, it’s Tuesday, they’re probably still stoked I bought I ticket and helped them out, I’ll just catch the two openers and be in bed by 930, they’ll be playing another venue for $10-$16 again soon”. And the bands you already know probably ARE the openers lol it’s up to you if you wanna stay for the touring act and discover new music

I've been to 3 shows in the last 4 weeks, but I am close to Philly so I am #blessed

 

I'm just very busy. Also, Josh, since you are clearly not *in the know* SPAC is not like up the street from me. It's 2 hours away (I actually thought it was further than that lol)

I also don’t super care for full album playthroughs. It’s cool that it gets some songs live that aren’t normally played otherwise idc lol

SPAC is like 30 mins from my parents now so i'll probably go there more. also treehouse is there.

The flipside is that those venues very often are impossible to park at and you have to figure that out/pay for that as well but yeah it definitely is still cheaper and easier to do

Can also be more awkward though especially if that band's fanbase is cliquey or whatever and you're just kinda standing alone waiting for shit to happen. Sound quality can be worse (I don't care about this but some will). There's cons for sure

Yeah I'm like, even if you want to play all these songs, just arrange the set differently to make it more exciting and better for a live setting as a whole. DBT didn't play straight through the album I saw but still played all the songs and it ruled, they made it actually work by curating for the situation
