Every few years I try to listen to The National's Trouble Will Find Me because I can't believe everyone loved it so much and I get mad every time because I think it suuuuuuuuuucks

i like the song from The National that plays during the end of Warrior and makes me cry and haven't listened to anything else

 

I think its ok for dustin to not enjoy it but its not ok for mark to not enjoy it.

I'll ramble for a sec and try to see why I do things like this lol:

For me, I think it is a mix of nostalgia and a mix of "it's easy." The nostalgia part is obvious they're a band whose prime lined up with me as a kid and the absolute target audience, who has enjoyed the comeback albums from several of those bands of that time in the same bucket of genre (blink, TSL, MCS, etc.) However, 2 songs in I realized "oh yeah nvm, not for me" and stopped trying. I don't think I totally go in with negative intentions and do try and be surprised

For the "easy" part, I guess what I mean for that is sometimes I fall into a slump with life. Whereas, I don't have the desire to read anything new, play a new video game, or actively want to discover new music. It usually happens when trying to listen/read/play some cool NEW rec I'd normally like and the opposite happens and it doesn't work for me and then I doubt if I even like music at all or entertainment or life and feel defeated.

SO, when this funk happens, I'm like "give me something easy" that falls into those easy mindless bands or movies or whatever where I don't have to "try" to like or pay much attention to. Anything to get out of that slump. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think there is probably a diagnosis in this but instead

 

I get some of that for sure. It doesn't really change my mind but I'm all for understanding it a bit more hahaha. I get the slump feeling frequently but that usually ends with me revisiting things I do like rather than trying to check out something new in a comfort genre that I think I wouldn't like (not saying you're doing that but that's often how it reads from people)
