I won't throw a fit if he gets in, it def shows i don't value longevity as much as maybe i should?

I tend to use a benchmark of "was this dude one of the defining names of his position for the time and is it an obvious yes" and i think if you go to his era you're looking at Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson and going.yep, they were that dude.

Gore and Witten are the same category to me of longevity vs elite.

Though kind of wild that Terrell Davis, in what was functionally a 4 season career, has 50% the yards and 75% the TDs of Frank Gore's 16 year career

I will be annoyed if we get to "we'll let in steady and consistent over the greatest kicker of all time or the most decorated special teamer because we don't value 33% of our own game"

i know there's been panic about Jeanty and I keep saying that raiders OL is real bad

    here's numbers for it:

    per ESPN

run block win rate - how often a run blocker beats his assignment in the running game

raiders rank tied for last at 67% with the Bengals

dead last at yards before contact per run at 0.97 yards (eagles and ravens are top 2, only teams above 2 YBC/RUN)

5th worst at yards after contact per run at 2.53 (packers and cards lead at 3.63 and 3.65 respectively)

7th worst stuff % - 19% of their runs are ending at or behind the line of scrimmage

    The rivalry is back on

I’m fine with avoiding Frank Gore if your line for HOF RB is that you need to be Adrian Peterson level of good in the modern era or you’re not in

I don’t like the case against Frank Gore if any other eligible RB is elected in his stead. No chance a Fred Taylor type clears his resume

Yeah I won't die on the hill of Frank Gore needing to get in. I do value productive longevity at a position that takes that much contact. But if he doesn't get in it's whatever, I get it

3rd all time in rushing yards during the passing boom of the nfl has to be a HOFer IMO

Yeah, the exception Id make for Gore (and also why Fitz is a Year 1 lock to me) is when everyone else at the position tails off at 30/31, Frank Gore had 4 more ~1000yd seasons after that and was still a legit starter into his age 36 season. Same way where most WRs tail off at 32/33, Fitz was about to string together 3 straight >100 catch, >1000yd, PB seasons into his Age 35 season

Danny Heifetz of The Ringer wrote this piece about Fitzgerald in 2018 and used it as a way to highlight how insane Jerry Rice's numbers are:

Forty-seven players have surpassed 10,000 career receiving yards in NFL history. Those 47 players are distributed fairly evenly by volume after the 10,000-yard mark.

    10,000-10,999: 13 players

    11,000-11,999: 8 players

    12,000-12,999: 8 players

    13,000-13,999: 6 players

    14,000-14,999: 6 players

    15,000-15,999: 5 players

We’re still missing Rice, so let’s finish the table.

    16,000-16,999: 0

    17,000-17,999: 0

    18,000-18,999: 0

    19,000-19,999: 0

    20,000-20,999: 0

    21,000-21,999: 0

    22,000-22,999: 1

Yes, Jerry Rice finished his career with 22,895 yards. That is 43.7 percent more yardage than Owens, who is currently in second place. For Fitzgerald to catch Rice, he would need to play 100 more games, which would take him to midway through the 2024 season. And that’s assuming he could continue his career average of 70.4 yards per game without missing any time. Rice’s record isn’t mentioned alongside Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point performance, Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak, or Wayne Gretzky’s all-time points record, but perhaps it should be.

"Rice caught 161 balls for 2,169 yards and 10 touchdowns between the ages of 40 and 42. Even if we drop the threshold, Rice has more yards after turning 38 than everyone else in NFL history combined"

    lmao
