I know this wasn’t Max’s intent and he was just joking - and it’s always just a joke - but let’s try to be better about respecting people choosing not to drink. Choosing not to indulge in alcohol is a great, healthy idea, and especially if someone stopped drinking cause the habit got outta control, it requires loads of self discipline in a culture that is always marketing alcohol to you. I feel like just because some of us aren’t willing to make that sacrifice and some of us enjoy alcohol a lot, doesn’t mean we should make fun of the fact that a few of us don’t drink and add to that societal pressure that already HEAVILY exists.

“tldr shut up nerd we’re just tugging sacks etc” idk i think most things are fun to joke about and i know none of us have intent to be shitty about any of it. but a few of these things are not as funny as they can be accidentally harmful. I’m not just talkin about Josh so even if he isn’t ever offended it’s still a thing we could be more mindful about.

Hope no one feels singled out by that comment, it’s a thing in society in general. Most the non drinkers I know avoid the topic entirely because every time it comes up people act weird about / make jokes about them not drinking, and don’t even respect the fact that their relationship with alcohol could actually be really bad and not something they like to joke about - maybe a lot of triggering memories of alcoholic family/ex-partners or being an alcoholic themselves and things like that, etc.

 

tbh i didn't know josh didn't drink, i don't feel like he talks about that a ton (doesn't need to if he doesn't want to obviously!) but i wouldn't say that's something people in here aren't usually good about
