This is a genuine request btw, as yall see periodically in this thread I have a real poor sense of when it’s okay to be blunt and point out facts and speak like an authority on a subject, vs when that’s only gonna rub people the wrong way even if I had a point
He is not. We both report to the F&B director (who is also the FOH manager). He’s in charge of the wine program but not in charge of anything that happens on the service floor
Went and saw my cousin's band play. small little band that's out on tour. venue literally across the street so hard to not go and I hadn't seen him in like 15 years lol.
Also worth noting the Lead Somm at my job is also a server, there’s very little difference in volume so it’s not like he’s not getting the same sales opportunities. It does speak volumes i am the one who is trusted with VIPs like the governor, and the marketing team, and the owner’s capital management company, and David Simon. I’m also the one training stages / new employees unless I’m off that day.
How was he? Are they good for real or just small band good? I think we are on the cusp, we have the skills to be good for real but we need better stage production and marketing to be perceived as “good for real”. Honestly I’d love to add a fourth member or a band manager who knows to handle that shit - cause I’m good at the other stuff, including networking and promoting local shows, but that’s an equally big factor as my music skills in terms of, increasing our chances of getting widespread notice
I thought they were pretty fun live, singer is very energetic. I don't know enough to say about good tbh. They're called Public Opinion and touring with a band called Catbite. tour has been decently long.
My other cousin who lives in Seattle also went and I found out his wife quit working at Boeing to do stand up comedy.
I’ll say this, it’s a lot easier to make money doing stand up than doing local music. I worked at a comedy club for almost a year and I’ve seen really shitty unfunny comics who are like, 40 something and still act like teenagers, getting gigs and making more to perform than REALLY GOOD local bands
There were actually GOOD comics who make enough that it qualifies as a local business and they had dedicated followings and would sell the club out regularly - but there were also bad comics who still made enough to get by without having a day job
Haha interesting. Guess tonight was at some sold out show and my cousin didn't attend because it's all in Chinese, but he said she's performed at like dingy basements and other decent local places. She was always shy and quiet when I've seen her, so it wasn't expected.
I wouldn’t bring up the comparison per se. I would just bring up your reviews, and how much business you generate in upsells and tips for the pot independently without saying “i get tipped better than the Lead.” That way you can brag about your stats and still appear to be a team player.
thank yall so much for the helpful feedback. Really trying to strategize this correctly. It’s not easy to get paid a legit hourly as a server without moving into management, this is the first time I’ve ever had some leverage at my job to even ask
Yeah basically what Dave said. Say everything you do well and what you provide for the restaurant but you don’t want to shit on another coworker.
Oh wow. Public Opinion rules and they’re only “small” because most hardcore bands are small in the grand scheme of things. They have been touring with militarie gun and much bigger bands recently. Loved their last record. That’s so sick.
Drawn From Memory off the last record is really good. And I know it isn’t a be all end all stat but 20k monthlies in a year where they didn’t release an album is pretty great for a hardcore band
