I like my new lyrics a lot, I spent the whole day playing with melodies and tweaking them. There’s probably gonna be a couple lead vocal lines I’ll re-record on harmonies day, didn’t feel like I quite got melodies I love everywhere - but it feels good to have a much stronger feeling about the message of the song, and listening to the existing takes over the next week should help me pinpoint where the melody should improve and what to change it to.
I think I managed to write a good sociopolitical song that conveys my anger about everything properly without being too preachy. There’s 3 songs now on the record with a social commentary message - “Get In Line” is about our inability to have work-life balance in a system designed to slowly impoverish and exploit everybody, and how buying into capitalism and trying to raise our own earning potential to keep up with inflation is ultimately a pyramid scheme that keeps us on a hamster wheel “The Modern Age” is about our failure to coexist with nature and how bizarre it is that concrete jungles are our natural environment now, and (new song title still being determined) is about how we’re complacent about horrible things in the world because we’re too divided and afraid to stand up for what we believe, and how the government uses the culture war to distract us from how they’re all incahoots to accomplish the same imperialist goals
