Also very important: delete your Spotify account I know I be grandstanding for shit in here and it mostly looks performative. But their new terms of service literally give them the right to steal its own content creators’ music and use it to train AI music or whatever else - PERMANENTLY. You can legally never get those proprietary rights back as an artist once you upload music to Spotify and accept their terms, which is fucking unheard of, even record labels have buyout clauses where you can buy the music back. It’s one of those sneaky internet things where if bands sat down and read this clause in a real contract in person, they would never sign it, but it’s being slipped in an online “terms of service” that we are so conditioned by data mining culture and internet instant gratification culture, that we usually just click “accept” without reading to skip past. And it’s not getting a lot of media attention. Certainly they’d like as few of their users to know about this as possible They are trying to cut artists out of their profit model entirely - which means the platform 1,000% is not for original music artists anymore. It’s not their business model to support the bands we all listen to. Regardless if my new music gets heard or gets 0 streams… if I could convince 5 people to delete Spotify and do something else to find new music, I’d be thrilled with that.
Cue 6 people rushing to their computers later this morning to type “I use APPLE I’m #builtdifferent” (the most likely competitor company to follow suit and do this lol, let’s fucking hope they don’t. They did do the opposite of Googles move of allowing the NSA / FBI to be able to hack into anyone’s phone, so we’ll see, they could go either way)
