Just played drums for the first time in weeks. Sounded like dookie, felt even dookier, but going to challenge myself to play for at least an hour a day in order to stay active and creative instead of laying in bed depressed out of my mind

This feels like employee error

which would totally happen at a U-Haul lol but there’s no way this is correct protocol. Probably just awful record keeping & communication between staff

 

Kinda just betting each U-Haul franchise is run by a competent worker who cares a LITTLE bit about their job and a lot of them aren’t lol. Lot of them are a tire shop with two trucks and if someone reserves the truck at an earlier date they’ll just shrug their shoulders and say okay lol

 

new music released today that I listened to:
My Morning Jacket - is: fairly standard MMJ - it's not bad and probably better than the last one but they solely exist now to be an incredible live act who sometimes puts out music

Japanese Breakfast - For Melancholy Women (& sad brunettes): pretty short at 32 minutes not a lot grabs me at first - very lush - miss the guitar stuff from the first two records. Honey Water is a keeper and the duet with Jeff Bridges is cool.

Weatherday - Hornet Disaster: will be one of the best emo records of the year - it's fairly long at 76 minutes but never feels draining.

Planning for Burial - It's Closeness, It's Easy: been waiting 8 years for the follow up to Below the House and wow Thom has leveled up in all ways

Momma - Welcome to my Blue Sky: not a wilco reference unfortunately but one of the best rock bands of the 2020s has another heater on their hands.

Adult Mom - Natural Causes: Stevie's first release since 2020's driver and battling cancer. their best work by far and will end up on a lot of lists I think.

 

I support this wholeheartedly, music is the cure

I’ve started practicing when I’m bored or sad again now that I have a car and it’s 15 minutes to my space not an hour. Helps a lot. Getting better at recognizing that if I haven’t played music in awhile it’s probably because I’m depressed and I try to do things to counteract that rather than letting depression tell me “nah, you’ll do it tomorrow”

 

Re: lunch, it’s burger day at work for staff meal, very glad I toughed it out and didn’t pay for breakfast before practice

 

I also made it from the heart of DC to my job in midtown Baltimore in an hour flat today despite leaving late at 1:57 PM

Crazy how those few precious minutes before 2 PM on a Friday make a huge difference. Had I left 10 minutes later I’d have gotten stuck in like 30 more minutes of traffic. I was noticing traffic starting to get stupid (people stopping for no reason, trucks all in the way of clear lanes etc) and did some nice maneuvering and planning ahead to stay in the fastest lanes

yeah I've started getting scheduled for 2pm instead of 1:30 and that 30 minute difference is so insane I just told them to put me back at 1:30 cause i have to leave at the same time either way

 

emo recorded in a bed room - it's lo-fi but also catchy and plays with the expectations of the genre.

 

cool was just making sure it wasn't another....i can't remember their name lol. They released an album that was long as fuck last year and it was just like, generic emo/pop-punk

 

Big feels. It’s so easy to convince yourself that you’re too tired or not in the right headspace. I think you just gotta push through. I haven’t played in weeks and, even though I only got to play for about 15 minutes today, it felt cool. It was fun and I just really need that right now in my life

 

Nothing is easier than convincing myself I'm too tired lol

Yeah these Friday practices I’m doing with my drummer before work in DC are ideal mood lifts right before I work a busy weekend, I definitely come away with the conclusion that the hour and a half is worth it even though it’s short. We wrote drums to song 3 (out of 5) of my solo EP today. That’s more content to mix it up on tour and help us fit folky / alt country artists (might be very useful in the Bible Belt south & Appalachia)

 

I was disappointed with both new albums I listened to today
