Look I’ve read and re-read this multiple times and the whole thing came down to us talking about the same numbers but thinking they were different. So help me piece together what I did that was so horrible to make everyone so mad lol.






I tried to clarify at the very beginning what yall meant. we could’ve avoided this whole thing by any one of you saying “yeah of course we pay our cleaners more than THAT lol”

If these numbers didn’t apply to you and your cleaners make $100 each for 2 hours of work, or you tip them 40% because you felt underquoted, there was nothing to be defensive about. You’re doing exactly what I’m saying people should do when it comes to paying for a service. So I’m genuinely trying to understand why the response was so combative. I said “how much they’re getting paid is a major factor to me”, yall coulda simply been like, “yeah we agree, our cleaners make a lot more than that”. But people jumped to “Randall’s trying to shame busy parents for having cleaners” (??? I literally offered to clean a house for a busy parent lmao), and it turned into an argument rather than people realizing “oh, Randall offered spiff a fair rate, that’s basically what I pay” lol

the only reason people kept getting annoyed with you and then kept getting more heated is because you seemed to get up (and not back down) on this weird soapbox acting like you were the only one in favor of service workers rights. No one ever disagreed with you that people should be paid more for what they do, but you kept acting like we were the ones that were in the wrong for using certain services and you were the one who was right for wanting to advocate for the working person.

you have to stop creating "why" people are jumping on you and realize its 110% the way you come across in these situations. im not gaslighting you, im not dogpiling, but you cannot just pop back in and throw some completely incorrect accusation as to why people were arguing with you. come on man.

I explained why I’m quick to question how much the workers are getting paid and said IF that means we disagree, that’s fine. IF.

Funny thing is, we didn’t disagree! Generally the consensus on both “sides of the argument” is that cleaners should make $40-$50 an hour, or $150-$200 for the whole cleaning, so that right there should’ve signaled that I don’t think I’m the only person supporting workers rights. That’s the part where people got defensive and I didn’t understand why. If it was clear that we were talking about the same numbers that would’ve HELPED for sure.

I don’t think I ever acted like someone was in the wrong for having cleaners. I repeatedly clarified that wasn’t what I was saying.

 

I was like, “the crux of this discussion is, are they getting paid fairly or not”. And in y’all’s cases they are. So while I get how I was preaching to the choir, why isn’t the response one of camaraderie and agreement haha. Saying I’d clean spiffa’s house for $200 to begin with wasn’t that wild haha we all agree that that’s the relative value of a single family house being cleaned (maybe a little less for small bungalow houses).
