It’s really not *that* different from playing a venue or festival. People want to pay to see entertainment at all kinds of levels. This just gave off some old man yells at cloud energy lol a lot of the bands we listen to are 40 something and still playing shows for a living, who’s to say they should stop just because they get a better deal off of some smaller community outreach event, than going through LiveNation/Ticketmaster now that the herd has thinned and there’s far fewer self-run music venues in business that believe in bands making a good cut of money.

I love the idea of taking capitalist middlemen out of the picture and challenging the status quo of venues currently, I hope more professional / veteran bands with grown ass adults do exactly that and prove that the community will pay for and support shows with or without them. People don’t wanna pay $40 fees and buy $14 drinks just to see a band they like either. I’d love if one of my favorite bands played some park or backyard.

 

As i added, my issue is with the 41 year old man still acting like a frat brother and playing the song he got famous for 20 years ago

Ah okay. Well that’s just more my issue with pop punk as a ”culture”. The genre/style is fine, it’s fine to like stuff that’s derivative of the music you grew up on, I don’t mind pop punk bands as long as their content matures as they mature as people. But there def are also a lot of 40 year old pop punk musicians still trying to explicitly appeal to teenagers and that’s definitely weird haha

I can still understand playing the song you got famous for cause it’s expected and you want to honor the lifelong fans who came to the show. But the “acting like a frat brother” part can def be a thing and I see your point from that angle

It’s just kind of a fine line cause they probably do have a large audience of young 20 something’s and they do wanna put on a show for them and match their energy somewhat so they feel connected to the music & artist. But there’s ways to do that while still being aware of the power dynamic / not just being there to act juvenile and party
