To be fair he had no idea 9/11 had happened, he was just speaking about how much he hated The Blueprint, it was pretty fucked up

If Randall ever plays near me, I will go and tell him this is where I found out about him. I don't think he knows what I look like.

I did not like it except for a song or two (RE: High Hopes)

I remember not liking this one at all (Wrecking Ball)

I simply do not believe this at all

  13. What is the size of / popularity of a band where the band members wouldn’t have to have real jobs. Like I understand Vinnie selling his time to do backyard shows because there’s no way the movie life or I am the avalanche is enough for him to get by forever.

Like are members of the wonder years able to bank enough money that they’ll actually be able to retire one day.

An old acquaintance of mine who makes a very good living while playing in his band says they find alternate avenues within music that passively generate revenue and that when you're in a band and reach a certain level you just make connections that work for you in that regard

So music stays your primary job but you just make all your money elsewhere

  15. Spiffa absolutely no one under the age of 40 is going to be able to retire.

Can't even imagine ever thinking, "we need an album from [literally any artist ever] now more than ever"

My musician friends who had moderate success, none of whom I still speak to regularly, are either making money doing other music related things (not necessarily still playing music), or are touring musicians for other bands now. None of them have 9-5s that I know of, but I would say that from my untrained eye, only one could probably retire at some point.

“no one under 40” is obviously wrong. a kevin parker or alex turner will never have to work another day of their life. war on drugs guy is over 40 but that’s bc he started at an older age. i think the bar for living solely off music the rest of your life is, like, jason isbell/roughly a million monthlies consistently even when you aren’t actively promoting an album

which is obviously less possible now than ever before but still happens. mj lenderman said in that recent profile he probably won’t have to work again in his life but that’s also like a different means. you can not have a job and have a smaller cost of living in a small college town in NC and not live lavishly like him and be on a smaller scale or you can be like isbell and live sort of lavishly
