well i was technically up for a different reason and before falling back to sleep felt a lil rumble so i hit the dump button

 

I just had some cover band musician I know from open mic act all salty and give me a lecture about how I asked him to come to one of my shows but haven’t been to one of his

buddy, for starters they are not the same thing. You have a built in audience and built in pay, I have to grind for those things myself. Yes, I 100% do have to promote harder and be “more annoying” about it to accomplish my goals.

you also don’t work nights, so me not coming to a show cause I’m at work and couldnt request off another day, is not the same as you not coming to a show cause you’re salty and jealous and only wanna support if theres something in it for you in return.

You also aren’t recording an album and touring, if you were you would understand how much it literally takes up all your free time and money and why I can’t afford to take more days off to support cover musicians playing songs they didn’t even write.

If you spent more time networking with bands doing that, you’d realize that we ALL have very little time when we’re in the studio and on the road, not just me, but we all have to try to promote anyway even if we can’t reciprocate. There are tons of other band members that support the hell out of my band but haven’t been to a show cause they’re too busy with their own shit. You’d think other musicians would be the MOST understanding folks about this.

Just grinds my gears that someone who only knows cover bands and open mics and restaurants who host cover bands wants to lecture me about how to “support the scene”. “I haven’t seen you lately” yeah cause I’ve been actually accomplishing shit with my music and supporting other bands with the same goals who are actually grinding their own music. Sorry I’m not prioritizing hearing the same fuckin covers ive heard you play at open mic for 3 years at some restaurant over that. Let’s flip the script, when is the last time you bought a ticket to support an independent musician instead of just wandering into a restaurant for free to hear some covers? If you don’t wanna come to my show just say that lmao
