but then I remember things like, Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo was 27 when the band formed in 1984 but it wasn’t until 1993 when he was 36 that they released the first album that he and many Yo La Tengo fans consider their first important release.

Sometimes I resent not doubling down harder on music when I was younger and letting college dropout guilt hold me back from a lot of things - but tbh when 22 year old artists take off, that’s often because major labels know they can take advantage of young adults who don’t understand business or contracts yet. I got nothing to shame myself about it’s never too late and a lot of the artists I love were my age before they finally did something “lasting” with their art

I’ll admit that I knew @phaynes12 would take issue with what I said haha. I think he might be more open minded to music of all types than I am and that’s a great way to be. I wish I liked Dinosaur Jr, would be cool, but I just don’t sorry hahaha

 

I don’t think they’re BAD, just mid and underwhelming compared to their reputation

 

I like Lou Barlow’s other band Sebadoh more

 

i totally get not liking them bc the bar for entry with j’s voice sounding how it does is pretty high haha. but of all the things to critique about the band, the guitar playing kinda seems like the one thing everyone unanimously agrees with

 

He’s good at guitar and Dino Jr is a guitar centric band, but he’s not a Rolling Stone Magazine guitar god, you feel me? Like don’t put him on the same list as Kaki King that shit just be false lol

 

I know a lot of guitarists as good as J Mascis and that’s kinda where my perspective comes from. He’s good but he’s also not surprising me with his riffs and ideas the way guitarists I think are amazing tend to do
