I know several people that are very successful photographers that own their own businesses but basically just do wedding’s, baby pictures and holiday shoots.

There are very, very few people in the world who can make a living strictly from photography. I'm talking about just taking photos and selling prints online/in galleries.

Most photographers these days that do "make a living" from it are also vlogging, selling Lightroom presets, selling workshops and masterclasses. They're constantly hustling like 4 different gigs other than just photography.

 

The amount of money wedding photography costs is fucking insane. Going through that right now.

Orrrrr you do wedding and event photography which is a whole other hustle and I want no part of that lol. It's just for fun

 

Someone should forget wedding photos & just do a wedding documentary

 

event, family/baby, and portrait/headshots are where the money is but has like 0 creativity. Wedding pays the big bucks, but is so stressful i would never do it.

now doing travel/landscape/content creation would be both creative and make a decent income, but it takes a long time to get established, have a following, and start making an ROI on all your gear

A videographer is even more insane for weddings and from what I understand a lot of them don't even do the editing themselves, it's outsourced.

Looked into that for my upcoming wedding as well and said yeah I am good. Don't see the appeal to go back and watch the thing maybe more than one or twice in my life.

I am getting a 360 camera this week so I can start doing BTS/in the pit instagram reels and youtube videos from doing concert photography just to mess around with. i want to start taking it camping or hiking and doing virtual reality ASMR "tour" videos of trails and places in Colorado
