My range has probably shifted a bit with the babies. Flying is shockingly a bit easier with them if it's a short flight. So if we were to go to DC it'd probably be a flight at this point.

ICE is literally attempting to deport US citizens because they “look Hispanic” fuck no, nope, not getting in that situation where they take my ID and never give it back, and say since I don’t have a passport im not allowed due process to get out of detention. Even if it was a mandatory company trip I’d be sitting down with my supervisor about this and figuring out how to object to going and still keep my job haha

Dude you’d be surprised. 6 years before Donald Trump was a thing I went to Canada, and when I tried to come back to the border, border patrol in northern Idaho literally ASSUMED we were trafficking drugs just because my passport had a typo that was clearly a mistake (birth date 1960 instead of 1990…)

They did not believe my drivers license or even my *military ID* (still had an active one from my dads military service) weren’t counterfeit, interrogated me heavily, and kept us there for hours while they searched the whole car down to removing seats.

Do not underestimate how racism-motivated people who work for border control and whose whole job is keeping people who “aren’t like them” out of the country, can be. Half the people who would sign up for that job in the first place 100% want to find some technicality to get/keep people of color out.

(and for the record I didn’t even smoke weed yet at that age, no, we did not have drugs lol)

The military ID literally has a special kind of lamination that cannot be imitated, if you tilt it in the light you see all these fluorescent reflections of specific symbols. If I didn’t have that ID with me I might have gotten detained and not gotten back into the country
