I mean, call me crazy, but it doesn’t have to be our business for us to think it’s fucking weird a 75-year-old is dating a 20-year-old

We lived through the #MeToo movement and the Epstein Island scandal, so I think it’s appropriate to question these kinds of power dynamics between old celebrities and far younger women

the media itself has different priorities, and I understand that. But if we want to learn from those past occurrences as consumers of the media, the first thing we should do to stop being complicit is stop dismissing it as “not our business” because that plays directly into the secrecy and intimidation that allows those things to happen

idk, as someone who has to deal with elder fraud a lot at work, and i’m not saying that’s exactly what’s happening here, but i’m not so quick to jump to the conclusion the older person is a predator here. again, not saying jordan is. but phrasing it as “a 75 year old dating a 20 year old” idk man. i think she has her own agency here. and the power dynamic is different than some pop punk bro in his 30s dating a teenager

 

Belichick clearly has money and power though it’s not just age. And it’s fair to doubt if he’d have any scenario of being with someone that age if he didn’t

McMillan, Scourton, and Umanmielen were all fairly consensus first round guys going into the season. They all had good to great seasons. And we walked away with all 3 guys.

i think the most likely scenario here is both people are pleased and getting what they want from the other. she has her own agency and has essentially jump started her own career out of this. it seems weird to presume she isn’t getting what she wants out of the relationship. it’s none of my business, no laws are being broken, and no one seems to be getting hurt. the constant posting is silly but other than that, who cares.

I really haven’t followed their relationship but no law is being broken is not a good enough reason alone not to question if there’s some manipulation going on in a society that doesn’t protect women, and no one seems to be getting hurt has been said a lot in creepy imbalanced power dynamic situations where psychological harm or worse was occurring. We’re seeing this right now with the Shannon Sharpe allegations. That said this one doesn’t seem to have a ton of red flags but nothing wrong with empathetic people like Randall caring and pointing out some general problems with big age gaps and power dynamics, and also nothing wrong with people being like well they are both technically adults not my business. Hope I straddled the fence enough here for this thread

i don’t disagree with anything randall was saying. i’m saying through my work on a daily basis i have to deal with senior citizens who lose their entirely livelihoods to people decades younger they are in a relationship with that have taken advantage of them. presuming someone is the victim and someone is the predator here solely because one is older than the other is a pretty flawed mindset

but as @dorfmac said, there is no reason for anyone to be projecting anything one way orbthe other onto it.
