i cannot emphasize enough how little of a shit i give about SOMEONE ELSE'S work getting done.

but also at the same time if people need help I also give very little of a shit about helping them too

This is just the shit I gotta eat if I wanna continue to be the most trusted employee here. This is my path to becoming a sommelier and making six figures / being able to move to whatever city I want so just trying to use that to motivate myself

At this level of service it unfortunately cannot be “my job / your job”, they hold me to the standard of “we serve our coworkers too” and helping out as best as I can whenever I have the capacity. It does mean I get walked on sometimes, but even if I’m the best server they’re ever gonna hire, it looks worse on me to just worry about my own shit and make my own section perfect while the rest of the restaurant’s sinking. If the restaurant’s reputation gets hurt we all get hurt money wise and I know the hotel GM doesn’t see all that political shit and just wants to see “is Randall taking on a leadership role and not complaining” before they consider me for a legit salary position

if it’s any reassurance, it’s no different working at a school. At the end of the day the customer/student needs to be served and someone has to step up to make sure it happens. I’m not serious about much, but I do have a service-oriented drive that creates a sense of responsibility to make sure the work gets done whether it’s mine or not. You hate yourself for it sometimes, but it’s innate and you just hope your employer notices and values it
