I actually hate that shit haha nothing against you @CobraKidJon more so just the tweet. I understand why it’s funny on the surface but as a mixed person who’s always been told stuff like “you’re basically white” have white folks ever considered the concept of code switching and the fact that society puts a lot of pressure on people like us to be palatable to white culture? I didn’t choose this lol. It came with the territory of growing up in a racist suburb in Florida because my dad’s military career allowed me to grow up with more privilege than how he grew up, and people often don’t understand that comes with downsides in terms of social conditioning

Sure, eventually you get used to it and it becomes second nature if you were raised that way, but that doesn’t mean you get to dismiss my heritage. Like, what if that person saw me speaking in a more ebonic-forward accent with my family? Would they think less of me?

 

TLDR don’t minimize the blackness of mixed people like Mahomes, it’s shitty and contributes to the same systemic racism that influenced us to hide our blackness in public in the first place
